See it clearly, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…they all came and urged David to eat something while it was still day; but David took an oath, saying, ‘May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if I taste bread or anything else before the sun sets!’ All the people took note and were pleased; indeed, everything the king did pleased them.”
(2 Samuel 3:35-36)

To be popular with the majority of people, Jesus?

Sure.
Sometimes.

But for everything David did to please them?

Only You.

That’s a good reminder:

My approval rating lies with You.

Pray this Lazaroo with desperate desire:

“Did I not make you swear by the Lord and warn you, ‘On the day you leave to go anywhere else, you can be sure you will die’? At that time you said to me, ‘What you say is good. I will obey.’ Why then did you not keep your oath to the Lord and obey the command I gave you?”
(1 Kings 2:42-43)

What Shimei swore before You didn’t matter, Jesus!

He was rotten to the core.

Only You know those who have potential

and those who have none.

When I need to know

show me!

Pray this Lazaroo with fear and trembling:

“May God deal with Abner, be it ever so severely, if I do not do for David what the Lord promised him on oath and transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and establish David’s throne over Israel and Judah from Dan to Beersheba.”
(2 Samuel 3:9-10)

If Abner knew all of that, Jesus

then why didn’t he do it to begin with?
A lot of people died because he didn’t.

How many will suffer because I don’t do

what I already know I should?

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful amazement:

“He has raised up a horn of salvation for us…to remember his holy covenant, the oath he swore to our father Abraham: to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.”
(Luke 1:69, 73-75)

You keep Your promises, Jesus –

not just some of the time –

everytime.

which means –

though you have not yet kept Your greatest promises –

You most certainly will.

Pray this Lazaroo in wholehearted commitment:

“…we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed. Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said, ‘So I declared on oath in my anger, “They shall never enter my rest.”’”
(Hebrews 4:2-3)

Hearing Your Word is no good to me, Jesus

if I don’t believe it.

But I do! Thank God, I do!

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“…he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay.”
(Acts 2:30-31)

You made that promise to King David, Jesus

and You kept it.

You keep all Your promises.

Please, LORD…

help me keep mine.

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“…I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.’ So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’”
(Hebrews 3:10-11)

You spell out pretty clearly what causes You to become angry with a generation of people, Jesus:

hearts that go astray
refusal to know Your ways.

O God!

Help me truly know You and Your ways!
Rise up within me so strongly –

that I never stray!

Sober up, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“May God deal with me…”
(1 Kings 2:23)

Oh, Jesus.

We human beings don’t pay nearly enough attention to our words, do we?

King Solomon was about to pronounce the death sentence upon his brother.

In fact, he was so angry at his brother at that moment
that he declared his intent with an oath.

But before I follow Solomon’s example, it might be good for me to remember:

If I ask You to deal with me

You will.
