Pray this Lazaroo with respect and honor:

“…you left your father and mother and your homeland and came to live with a people you did not know before.”
(Ruth 2:11)

That’s the kind of thing people do in honor of You, Jesus!

Ruth did all of that to stay with her mother-in-law Naomi

out of respect for the woman she loved
and in honor of the God Naomi worshiped:

You.

You’re worth every big time price I pay

every courageous action I take in obedience to You.

Go to school as you pray this Lazaroo:

“I have promised to bring you up out of your misery in Egypt into…a land flowing with milk and honey.”
(Exodus 3:17)

You kept Your promise, Jesus!

You always do.

Of course, there were a lot of tests, trials and battles

between the time Your people left and the time they arrived –

as there almost always is.

Because of their repeated disobedience

many of them didn’t get to experience that milk and honey.

Help me learn from their mistakes!

Pray this Lazaroo with bulldog faith:

“Jonah started into the city.”
(Jonah 3:4)

Beginnings are crucial, Jesus!

Without them, nothing gets done.

But starting a task that seems doomed to failure is especially hard.

That’s why Jonah ran the other way
when You assigned it to him.

Still, successful completion of the task isn’t the most important thing.

Obedience to You is.

Only after I obey

do I get to find out if You will bring it to completion.

Because only You can.

Pray this Lazaroo in passionate commitment:

“…you who do what he commands…”
(Zephaniah 2:3)

I long to be one of those people, Jesus!

There’s a difference between asking You to be my Savior
and becoming one of Your followers, isn’t it?

Well…there shouldn’t be
but for some people there is.

There are those who merely try to use You for a fire escape.

They want to make heaven and miss hell.

So do I!

But You also call me to do everything You say.

Pray this Lazaroo in trusting obedience:

“…deal with them…”
(Lamentations 1:22)

…because I can’t, Jesus!

Oh, I can deal with my enemies

poorly
in a way
inadequately
blindly

but not like You can!

You know which of them I now regard as enemies

will one day become my friends.

You know which of them are acting innocently

and which are acting with evil, malevolent intent.

So I’m going to do my best to obey You

by praying for them

and ask You to handle it.

Pray this Lazaroo in non-argumentative obedience:

“…lift up holy hands in prayer…”
(1 Timothy 2:8)

When You reveal to me one of the ways You love to be worshiped, Jesus

that’s what I’m going to do.

For reasons of Your own…

You love it when I lift my hands to You!

Of course, I can do it when it’s just You and me alone, 1on1.

But when it comes to public worship
I suspect You like it then, too.

But not so others will see.
Only for You.

Pray this Lazaroo without excuse:

“If a member of the community sins unintentionally…”
(Leviticus 4:27)

That can certainly happen, Jesus

especially with some of the more obscure points of Jewish law.

But most of Your commands? Things like –

telling the truth
not killing people
faithfully attending church
not committing adultery
sharing my faith
not stealing
pleasing You
not craving other people’s possessions
helping the poor –

those nobody has to tell me to obey.

If I break them, it’s no accident.

I did it on purpose.

Act wisely, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…they disobey their parents…”
(Romans 1:30)

Some parents ought to be disobeyed, Jesus –

anytime they tell a child to do something
You tell them not to do.

Your Word trumps parental authority.

But when it’s anything else –

even if it’s something the child doesn’t like –

that child would be very wise to obey mom or dad.

You’re watching.

Children who honor their fathers and mothers
tend to live a long time.

Those who don’t?
Not so much.
