Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“Arise, Lord, in your anger; rise up against the rage of my enemies. Awake, my God; decree justice. Let the assembled peoples gather around you, while you sit enthroned over them on high.”
(Psalms 7:6-7)

When I see evil people getting away with outrageous atrocities, Jesus

this is the kind of prayer I want to pray!

I want the whole world to see what You do
to punish those who sin

until, stunned

I remember I’m a sinner, too.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“…that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
(2 Thessalonians 2:14)

That’s wild, Jesus!

To share in Your glory?

How can human beings do that?

We absolutely don’t deserve it.
Not even the best of us.

Especially not the worst of us –
the category to which I belong.

But that’s Your love, Your outrageous kindness

Your overwhelming generosity!

Nor are we to keep Your glory to ourselves.

We’re to make sure others get in on it, too.

Rejoice! as you pray your Lazaroo on this glorious Christmas day:

“…boasting of what we have and do…”
(1 John 2:16)

Why do we do that, Jesus?

Everything we have or do comes from You!

Better question:

Why do I do that?

Because – God help me! – I do.

I guess it’s because I want people to think well of me.

But why? I’m nothing but a dirty, rotten sinner saved by grace.

Your outrageous, inconceivable love

is the only reason my punishment in hell
has been switched to eternal joy in heaven.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“Shout and be glad…”
(Zechariah 2:10)

It’s pretty hard to offend You, Jesus

when my praise is outrageously exuberant toward You. 😉

I know I’m supposed to behave in polite company

but sometimes I’m too polite, too quiet, too controlled
when it comes to giving You the honor You’re due.

David was over-the-top with his dancing in front of the ark.

So was Phinehas who was zealously obedient with his spear.

I could do worse
than follow their example.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“…on the day of the LORD’s wrath…the whole world will be consumed…”
(Zephaniah 1:18)

As terrifying as that day will be, Jesus

it’s Your right.

You’re the Creator of everything. You put us here.

You can take us out.

In fact, in light of our inexcusable, outrageous behavior

it’s only because of Your great mercy
that You haven’t done it already.

I know You’re the God of the second-googolth chance.

But one day
the last chance will run out.

Pray this Lazaroo in zealous love:

“…it is the gift of God…”
(Ephesians 2:8)

That’s what my salvation is, Jesus –

an undeserved, unmerited, outrageous gift.

The people I live and work with would all pitch in with a passionate

“Amen!”

As do I.

The thoughts with which I wrestle
the words that slip out

my countless inexcusable behaviors
the actions I should’ve taken but didn’t

testify that my home in heaven is a miscarriage of justice

and the highest proof
of Your costly, loving mercy.

Pray this Lazaroo in steadfast faith:

“They are full of…murder…”
(Romans 1:29)

No matter how much I detest what someone does, Jesus

I can’t allow myself to give in to the runaway passion

that leads to murder.

It isn’t between them and me.

It’s between You and me.

I’ve got to believe in my heart that if someone needs killing

You’ll do it –
in the right way and time

never forgetting that I myself deserve death for my sins

but for Your incomparable, outrageous mercy.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“The LORD will restore…”
(Nahum 2:2)

That’s Your specialty, Jesus!

No one would be surprised to learn
that You bless those who stay true to You.

But when You rebuild what by disobedience
I’ve torn down with my own two hands?

Shocking.
Outrageous.
Unthinkable

Love, mercy and forgiveness
in the extreme.

Besides all that, most of the time

it requires a miracle
to put back everything that was lost

plus a little extra

since in love
You just can’t resist. 😉
