Pray this Lazaroo in humble adulation:

“I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.”
(Ephesians 3:13)

It’s hard not to be discouraged by suffering, Jesus

especially when it’s happening to me, personally.

But that wasn’t why Paul was suffering.

He was suffering for others!

O God.

Grow me up in my faith.
Give me Paul’s compassion for others!

Correction: That’s not Paul’s compassion.

That kind of compassion
comes straight from You

proven 2,000 years ago
on the cross.

Pray this Lazaroo in zealous love:

“Someone might argue, ‘If my falsehood enhances God’s truthfulness and so increases his glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?’ Why not say—as some slanderously claim that we say—’Let us do evil that good may result’? Their condemnation is just!”
(Romans 3:7-8)

Through Paul, You brilliantly dismantle this attack on Your gift of grace, Jesus!

Anyone who knows You
knows You would never condone willful sin!

Help me take my stand for truth

and against all who would pervert it!

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit…”
(Colossians 2:5)

A lot of people use this verse to justify why they didn’t show up, Jesus.

They say “I can’t come, but I’ll be with you in spirit.”
Then they promptly put those people out of their minds.

But not Paul.

He truly connected with those he couldn’t be with.
He cared for them, prayed for them, identified with them.

Heavenly Father!
May I do the same.

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful perspective:

“So then, no more boasting about human leaders! All things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.”
(1 Corinthians 3:21-23)

It’s okay for us to be grateful for the leaders You’ve so gifted, Jesus

but not to put them on a pedestal of worship.

You’ve gifted us all…even me!

May I never forget that.

Pray this Lazaroo with recognized desire:

“…keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.”
(Jude 1:21)

Paul said it, Jesus:

“If only for this life we have hope in Christ,
we are of all people most to be pitied.”

To paraphrase C.S. Lewis:

I find in myself a desire
that nothing in this world can satisfy.
Clearly, I’m meant for another world.

Send your angels to bring me there to You, Father

when my time has come.

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.”
(Titus 2:7-8)

Paul didn’t want people saying bad things about Titus, Jesus

but he also didn’t want them saying bad things about him!

He knew whatever Titus said and did
was a reflection on him

just as what I say and do
is a reflection on those
who’ve built into my life.

Pray this Lazaroo in respectful awe:

“So when we could stand it no longer, we thought it best to be left by ourselves in Athens.”
(1 Thessalonians 3:1)

Paul longed to return to the believers in Thessalonica, Jesus

but Satan blocked him.

We don’t know how or why.

But You either let it happen or caused it to happen
because Satan can thwart no plan of Yours!

Was sending Timothy in his place second best?

No.

You’re Sovereign.

That was Your plan all along.

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“…make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery…”
(Ephesians 3:9)

This isn’t only Paul’s assignment, Jesus

it’s mine, too.

Your good news isn’t hard to tell.

But it is hard to explain.

Why would the God of heaven come to earth as a man

and give Your life on the cross to save a wretch like me?

There’s one explanation and one explanation only:

You love us with a depth, passion and ferocity

that none of us can begin to comprehend.

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

” to…Archippus our fellow soldier…”
(Philemon 1:2)

Paul knew, Jesus:

We’re in a war.

Right against wrong.
Good against evil.
God against Satan.

In a war, you’ve gotta have soldiers

and Paul was so grateful for Archippus!

Like Paul

I’m grateful for every soldier who understands this war
and comes alongside me in the fight.

Most wars are life and death –

small potatoes compared to this one –

which is eternal life and death.

With stakes this high

I need every fellow soldier You provide!

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“So when we could stand it no longer…”
(1 Thessalonians 3:1)

I love knowing that Paul had that emotion, Jesus!

But it was more than mere emotion, wasn’t it?
You were moving on his heart to do something about it –

which is exactly what he did.

Work through my emotions too, LORD!

May they not be unreliable, leading me astray.
May they instead be guided by You

goading me, prompting me, pushing me, driving me

to do the very things You’ve called me to do!
