Pray this Lazaroo in fascination:

“Epaphras, my fellow prisoner…”
(Philemon 1:23)

So, Jesus…

Does Epaphras gets mentioned in the Bible
solely because he was in jail with Paul?

No.

There was something special about this man.

He and Paul had made a connection.
Knowing Paul, he had probably led Epaphras to You.

In a sense, Paul led me to You, too –

because through Your words in him
he taught those who first told me about You.

There are worse things

than being imprisoned with the Apostle Paul!

Pray this Lazaroo in humble adulation:

“…make my joy complete…”
(Philippians 2:1)

Paul was telling the people in the church at Philippi what else he wanted them to do, Jesus.

They had already pleased him in a few things
but the transformation into Your likeness still wasn’t done.

Can I ever identify!

I’m making progress in a few areas.
When I look a little more like You, I’m thrilled!

So is everybody around me. 😉

Please help me go all the way!

…to make Your joy complete.

Be on your guard, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…we are not unaware of [Satan’s] schemes.”
(2 Corinthians 2:11)

Paul wasn’t, Jesus

but too often, I am.

I forget that my struggle is not against flesh and blood

but against the rulers, authorities, powers of this dark world
and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Holy Spirit! Remind me to put on the full armor of God

so that when the day of evil comes
I’ll be able to stand my ground
and after I’ve done everything

to stand.

Pray this Lazaroo in costly faith:

“…for the sake of his body…”
(Colossians 1:24)

Coming only days after Good Friday, Jesus…

it would be easy to think Paul is referring to your physical body,
beaten and crucified to pay for my sins.

But no.

Paul is talking about Your body of believers
and what he willingly suffers in their behalf.

Do I have that kind of love and compassion for Your Church?

Do I consider the sacrifices I make for them

a hardship…or a privilege?

Pray this Lazaroo with a willingness to be corrected:

“How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs?”
(Galatians 2:14)

That had to be incredibly hard for Peter to take, Jesus.

After all, Peter had spent the entire three years of your ministry with You.

Paul was a Johnny-come-lately

who had persecuted Your followers in the early days of the church.

No matter!

This time, Paul was right
and Peter was wrong.

No matter by whom!

may I always be willing to stand corrected.

Pray this Lazaroo in renewed determination:

“…I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions…”
(Colossians 1:24)

This has to be one of the most baffling statements Paul ever made, Jesus.

You paid it all!

No matter how much I suffer for You

Your horrific sacrifice on the cross
stands as payment in full for my salvation.

No one else could do it.
Nothing else is required.

But Paul was saying there’s a whole lot of sacrificing that must be done

so others will know.

Pray this Lazaroo in deep gratitude for the cross:

“You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew.”
(Galatians 2:14)

Peter had embraced Your good news, Jesus!

He was no longer living under the law.
He had faced the fact that he kept falling short.

Instead, he was now living under grace –
trusting You alone as His Savior.

But when some of the old crowd showed up

he reverted to his old ways
and Paul, in Your courage –

nailed him for it.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“I hope…”
(Philemon 1:22)

So do I, Jesus!

I have hopes very similar to Paul’s, when he wrote those words.

Like Paul, I envision being able to do some things that seem good to me

but I’m not certain they’re in Your plan.

Of course, You know what’s best.

I don’t.

What seems good to me may be bad…or second-best.
What seems bad to me may turn out to be awesome.

Help me fully, thankfully embrace whichever You choose.

Pray this Lazaroo with conviction:

“I said to Peter in front of them all…”
(Galatians 2:14)

One titan taking on another, Jesus –

the Apostle Paul confronting the Apostle Peter.

Paul, however, was the newbie.

Peter was one of the originals –
chosen by You to be one of Your inner circle.

So what gave Paul the courage and conviction to rebuke Peter?

It was very simple, wasn’t it?

Paul was right.
Peter was wrong.

When it comes to right and wrong

right must always prevail.

Pray this Lazaroo in full awareness:

“…what I have forgiven…I have forgiven in the sight of Christ…”
(2 Corinthians 2:10)

Everything I do is done in Your sight, Jesus

…but it’s good for me to remember that.

When I’m making a major claim like Paul was

it’s not a bad idea for me to remind others of it. 😉

It’s hard enough to say I’ve forgiven someone.

But to actually, thoroughly, permanently forgive them?

That’s a pretty big deal.

Knowing You’re watching

helps me do it.
