Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…whether they listen or fail to listen.”
(Ezekiel 3:11)

Some things have to be said, Jesus –

whether or not the people to whom I’m speaking
are paying attention.

You hold me responsible to teach those under my care.

You hold me responsible to warn those in danger.

Most of all:

You hold me responsible to tell others about You.

If they listen –

they learn
they escape danger
they’re saved.

But even if I’m ignored

I still have to speak.

Pray this Lazaroo in mind-blown amazement:

“With praise and thanksgiving…”
(Ezra 3:11)

You kinda like it when those two go together, don’t You, Jesus?

The praise because of Who You Are
The thanksgiving because of what You’ve done

and continue to do…and do…and do.

But to do either I have to pay attention, don’t I?

I’ve got to dismiss the idea of chance, luck, circumstance.
I’ve got to recognize that it is You! All You!

If I can’t do that

I still don’t know You.

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“Gather together, gather together…”
(Zephaniah 2:10)

When You say it once, I’ve got to pay attention and obey, Jesus.

But when You say it twice?

Whew! I need to get out my highlighter
and bump it up to the top of my agenda.

What are You saying to me through Your prophet Zephaniah?

They quit turning to You for counsel, direction and help, didn’t they? –
turning instead to others they trusted more.

Message received and recorded.
Loud and clear.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Now give careful thought to this…”
(Haggai 2:15)

When You say something like that, Jesus

I’m all ears
paying close attention
on the edge of my seat
pen poised to take notes.

Everything You tell me is important

whether You say it is or not.

But when You highlight something You’re about to tell me

my heart beats faster
my eyes open wider

because I know I’m about to hear something

that can be a game-changer in my life.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“…you will do well to pay attention to it…”
(2 Peter 2:19)

The old joke isn’t true, Jesus:

“I’m too poor to pay attention.”

The poorer I am, the more attention I need to pay to Your Word.

You…are my only hope out of the ghetto of my poverty.

But that’s not all.

The richer I am, the more attention I need to pay to Your Word.

You…are my only hope out of the ghetto of my self-sufficient pride.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“An attacker advances against you, Nineveh…”
(Nahum 2:1)

Was Nineveh afraid, Jesus?

Maybe not.
Nineveh was a strong, confident, important city.

Besides, they had escaped destruction once before when You sent Jonah to warn them.

They humbled themselves, repented
and You relented.

But they didn’t, this time, did they?

Forewarned is forearmed
only when the warning is heeded.

You’ve warned me in the past, LORD.

I paid attention, straightened up
and You spared me.

Keep me paying attention!

every time.
