Pray this Lazaroo with deep satisfaction:

“To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God.”
(Ecclesiastes 2:25)

What a relief this is, Jesus!

When I see evil people prospering, I can smile.

It doesn’t need to bother me.

They’re not getting away with anything.

They’re simply piling it up for those who – like I –
are determined to please You.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“Eli’s sons were wicked men…”
(1 Samuel 2:12)

That’s every parent’s nightmare, Jesus!

Well…perhaps not every parent.
There may be evil parents who want evil children.

But even those parents
don’t want their children to be evil to them.

You haven’t given us control over our children.

If You had, our parents could have controlled us.

At best, parents have only example and influence.

But please, God! Hear the brokenhearted parent’s prayer:

Rescue and restore the children who stray.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you…Then you will win favor and a good name…”
(Proverbs 3:3-4)

Wow. That’s pretty powerful, Jesus.

I usually think about love and faithfulness
being a blessing to others.

But now, You’re reminding me:
It’s a blessing to me, as well.

That’s so much like You!

Every time I do something to please You
or do something for others because You tell me to

it ends up helping me.

I really can’t out-give You!

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“But when they arrived, he began to draw back…”
(Galatians 2:12)

Peer pressure can be a good thing, Jesus

when the people around me are wholly devoted to You

when their only desire for me
is to see me follow You.

But so many times, groups and individuals have their own ideas

causing them to pressure me to fall in line with their agendas.

I’d love to please them, Father!

But I’d ten thousand times rather please You.

Pray this Lazaroo in humble adulation:

“…in accordance with all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.”
(1 Chronicles 6:49)

Your Word is more than a suggestion, isn’t it, Jesus?

It’s a command.

I can’t choose which commands I like and obey only those.

It’s all or nothing.

Your Word is an expression of Your very self.

When I fully obey Your Word, I’m choosing to

please You
honor You
follow You
be like You

which is the deepest longing of my heart.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“…you will walk in the ways of the good…”
(Proverbs 2:20)

That’s my desire, Jesus!

to walk in the ways of the good.

There are a lot of evil people out there

the worst of whom only pretend to be good.

But You’ve always had men, women, young people

who love You with all their hearts
who want with everything in them to please You.

They aren’t perfect.

Neither am I.

But in Your strength

we’re giving it all we’ve got.

Take this lesson to heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“There will be no survivors from the house of Esau.”
(Obadiah 1:18)

Even before he was born

You knew what kind of person Esau would be, Jesus.

He lived for the moment, failed to plan ahead
cared more about pleasing himself than pleasing You.

How different is that from most of the people of my generation?

When that’s most of what I see
it’s easy to think of it as normal.

But that kind of “normal”

leaves no survivors.

Pray this Lazaroo in Spirit-renewed determination:

“When the LORD heard what you said, he was angry…”
(Deuteronomy 1:34)

May my words never do that to You, Jesus!

Of course, to keep that from happening
I need to guard my thoughts, as well.

It might help, too, if I make sure I’m following You every step of the way

‘cause when my 1on1 relationship with You slips
so does my tongue.

As you monitor my thoughts, words and actions

may You beam with pride and joy!

Pray this Lazaroo with an open heart:

“…he wants to please his commanding officer.”
(2 Timothy 2:4)

Most people do, Jesus…

some because they like their commanding officer
some because they fear their CO

some kiss up because they want a promotion.

But not everyone wants to please their commanding officer.

Some want to undermine them, discredit them
get them replaced.

Through all the layers of authority, You’re my ultimate CO, Father.

I answer to You.

One thing’s for sure:

I definitely want to please You.
