Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“I wrote to the church…”
(3 John 1:9)

I’m so glad John did, Jesus!

When he passed along Your words in writing

he couldn’t have imagined
how many billions of people would read them

unless You told him! 😉

It isn’t likely that billions of people will read what I write, Jesus

after all, I’m not anything close to Your beloved John.

But please:

make everything I say or write
result in praise, glory, gratitude and honor to You!

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“Do nothing out of…vain conceit…”
(Philippians 2:3)

It would be helpful if you would show me how I end up with such an attitude, Jesus.

Everything I am, everything I have is from You.
How could I ever arrive at the conclusion that it originates with me?

Is it the praise of others – directed to me rather than You?

If so, when that happens, I need to be extremely diligent

about deflecting the praise to You
to set the record straight.

Pray this Lazaroo with keen anticipation:

“But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple, wept aloud…
(Ezra 3:12)

Everybody else was shouting with excitement and praise, Jesus.

Why not the older ones, too?

Because it reminded them of what they had lost.

Theirs were tears of remembrance –

the good times they had experienced
having no temple all this time.

I too have wept over what I’ve lost…

but believe I’ll weep again – in grateful joy.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“May the glory of the LORD be praised in his dwelling place!”
(Ezekiel 3:12)

I cannot begin to comprehend the magnitude of this praise, Jesus.

Oh, to be there in heaven among countless throngs of angels
singing with voices far surpassing any choir on earth

in impossibly close, perfect, thousands-part harmony
rendering gorgeous notes inconceivable

to the unaided human ear

in all the languages of earth and heaven
with depth of meaning so rich
that my heart bursts in adoration.

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“…all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD…”
(Ezra 3:11)

You deserve that, Jesus!

Sometimes we’re too reserved.

We’re too worried about what people will think of us if we raise our hands or loudly lift our voices to You in praise

which means I’m thinking more of myself
than I’m focused on praising You.

True, I’ve got to be considerate of others.

But if I’m going to offend somebody
let it be them…not You.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy awareness:

“He has performed mighty deeds with his arm…”
(Luke 1:51)

Mighty deeds are Your specialty, Jesus.

Praise be to Your glorious Name!

But that’s not the phrase that catches my eye.

Your mom said You performed them with Your arm –
and that’s before she had seen You work any miracle.

She was referring to Your heavenly Father.

Strictly speaking, God is Spirit. He has no arms.

But You were His arm on this earth for 33 years

as now…am I.

Pray this Lazaroo in mind-blown amazement:

“With praise and thanksgiving…”
(Ezra 3:11)

You kinda like it when those two go together, don’t You, Jesus?

The praise because of Who You Are
The thanksgiving because of what You’ve done

and continue to do…and do…and do.

But to do either I have to pay attention, don’t I?

I’ve got to dismiss the idea of chance, luck, circumstance.
I’ve got to recognize that it is You! All You!

If I can’t do that

I still don’t know You.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“Shout and be glad…”
(Zechariah 2:10)

It’s pretty hard to offend You, Jesus

when my praise is outrageously exuberant toward You. 😉

I know I’m supposed to behave in polite company

but sometimes I’m too polite, too quiet, too controlled
when it comes to giving You the honor You’re due.

David was over-the-top with his dancing in front of the ark.

So was Phinehas who was zealously obedient with his spear.

I could do worse
than follow their example.
