Pray this Lazaroo with undying love:

“…the Lord will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over everything the glory will be a canopy. It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain.”
(Isaiah 4:5-6)

Cover me, Jesus

just like that.

May Your power overshadow me
Your shelter protect me and hide me

from all who intend me harm.

Pray this Lazaroo in utter reliance on God:

“…Ehud had made a double-edged sword…which he strapped to his right thigh under his clothing. He presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab, who was a very fat man. After Ehud had presented the tribute, he sent on their way those who had carried it.”
(Judges 3:16-19)

Eglon never would have trusted Ehud, Jesus

If he had known what was coming next.

I have no idea who’s carrying a sword to use on me

or on those I love, Holy Spirit

but You do.

I beg You:

Protect us!

On this 1st day of April, know that God’s not fooling:

“…they are…heartless…”
(Romans 1:31)

Some of the worst people out there, Jesus

still have a heart.

There are things they still care about, people they love.

As hardhearted as they are about most things
a little tenderness still comes through.

But those who are absolutely, totally heartless?

These people are terrifying.
Their lips sometimes curl into a smile

but their eyes are ice cold.

I beg You to protect me from them, Father!

and never allow me to become one of them.

Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“Spread your protection over…those who love your name…”
(Psalms 5:11)

I love Your Name, Jesus!

Please spread Your protection over me.

Having said that

I confess that I don’t love Your Name nearly enough.

Help me love You as You deserve!

Your Name is Wonderful…Counselor…the Mighty God…Prince of Peace.

You’re the Alpha and Omega…the Everlasting Father…the Bread of Life

Chief Cornerstone…my Deliverer…Faithful and True

the Good Shepherd…Great High Priest

Light of the World…the Author and Perfecter of my Faith.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“…he was afraid to go there.”
(Matthew 2:22)

You haven’t given me a spirit of fear, Jesus –

but a spirit of power, love, self-discipline.

There’s no place You send me

that I need fear.

But there are places You forbid me to go.

I’d blessed well better be scared to go there!

How can I expect You to protect me

when I blatantly disobey?

Lead me in Your way everlasting, Father!

And keep my britches
out of the ditches.

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“I will surely raise my hand against them…”
(Zechariah 2:9)

Don’t want to ever hear that, Jesus!

Not as it pertains to me.

I need Your hand to

save me
comfort me
sustain me
strengthen me
guide me
protect me
show me
cover me
lift me
help me.

But dear God!

May Your hand never be raised against me.

Against my enemies, though?

Tempting.
But You’ve told me to pray for them.

Nah. Don’t.
Go ahead and bless them.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“My dove in the clefts of the rock…”
(Song of Songs 2:14)

Solomon is referring to his wife, Jesus

but what he says about doves is true.

They’re beautiful, gentle…vulnerable.

They hide in the clefts of the rock
to remain unseen by predators –

like foxes, dogs, bobcats, coyotes, weasels
…and man.

If that’s the case

please hide this dove in the clefts of the rock, Father!

and cover me there with Your hand.
and cover me there with Your hand.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“…their heart is filled with destruction.”
(Psalms 5:9)

The idea of having someone like this for an enemy is terrifying, Jesus!

They’re not content with doing wrong.
Not willing to stop at trying to entice me to sin.

It’s not enough for them to hurt me.
They won’t be happy until they’ve destroyed me.

But the idea of ever allowing a person like this to be my friend?
Thinking I can handle it?

Deliver me, my God!
Deliver me.

Face your vulnerability, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“I called to my allies but they betrayed me.”
(Lamentations 1:18)

Allies are there just in case, Jesus.

I make promises to them
and they to me.

It might be months or years before I need them

but when calamity comes
that’s when I call on them for help.

Only then do I find out whether I have an ally

or a betrayer.

The only one who knows beforehand is You, Father!

Please.
I beg You!

Protect me.
