Pray this Lazaroo with catalytic dedication:

“‘In vain I punished your people; they did not respond to correction. Your sword has devoured your prophets like a ravenous lion. You of this generation, consider the word of the Lord: ‘Have I been a desert to Israel or a land of great darkness? Why do my people say, “We are free to roam; we will come to you no more”?’”
(Jeremiah 2:30-31)

May I never dismiss Your warnings, Jesus!

Open my eyes wide
s
harpen my hearing.

Cause me to repent

so I can be spared.

Pray this Lazaroo with a pure, humble heart:

“…you flood the LORD’s altar with tears.”
(Malachi 2:13)

There are tears, Jesus…

and then there are tears.

There are those who cry because they’re angry

or because of what they’ve lost.

Some are able to manufacture fake tears

in order to manipulate the tenderhearted and gullible.

Others sob in their punishment because they’ve been caught –

not because they’re sorry they did it.

But when I flood Your altar with tears

may it be in sincere, heartfelt repentance.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“…whenever any of the people offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three-pronged fork in his hand while the meat was being boiled and would plunge the fork into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot. Whatever the fork brought up the priest would take for himself.”
(1 Samuel 2:12-14)

What a detestable abuse of power, Jesus!

You judged and punished Samuel’s sons

and you will surely judge and punish those
who abuse their power today!

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“…the Jews…drove us out …”
(1 Thessalonians 2:14-15)

I love the Jews, Jesus.

Not as much as You do, because no one could.
But my love for Your chosen people is fierce and strong.

Still…there were times when You were so upset with them

that You threatened to wipe them off the face of the earth.
You didn’t…but You punished them severely.

I know You love me –

enough to do whatever it takes to turn me around

when I stray.

Pray this Lazaroo in sobriety of mind:

“So I have caused you to be despised and humiliated before all the people…”
(Malachi 2:9)

To be despised – if it’s only by one or two people –

is painful, Jesus.

To be humiliated with somebody watching

is awful.

But to be despised and humiliated before everybody?

Family, friends, total strangers?
Pretty close to unbearable.

What would cause You to do something like that to a person?

Maybe because they’ve tried to make everyone they know
despise and humiliate You.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“Also, the men of Memphis and Tahpanhes have cracked your skull.”
(Jeremiah 2:16)

Total humiliation, Jesus.

It was not as though all of Egypt had attacked Israel.

All it took was a couple of cities
to bring Your chosen ones to their knees.

You broke Egypt to set Your people free

but because those You rescued
enslaved themselves to idols

the vanquished became conquerors.

Which is precisely what happens to me

when I choose anything or anyone over You.

Take a deep breath, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…all will be condemned who have not believed the truth…”
(2 Thessalonians 2:12)

Pretty plain, Jesus.

Thanks for laying it out there

Those who refuse to believe the truth are not merely disciplined, punished.

You don’t simply give them a stern talking-to
put them in time out.

They’re condemned.

Last time I checked
that means hell.

Not just for a visit.
Forever.

Makes me develop a whole new appreciation

for the truth…the whole truth…
and nothing but the truth.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy fear:

“They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.”
(Jude 1:13)

I remember hearing long ago, Jesus:

There’s so much good in the worst of us
and so much bad in the best of us
that it behooves all of us
not to judge the rest of us.

Not bad advice.

That’s pretty close to the truth.

But You’re in a position to judge.

And You will.
