Pray this Lazaroo with recognition:

“I struck all the work of your hands with…hail…”
(Haggai 2:17)

Discipline like that ought to be obvious, Jesus

unless the person You’re correcting
doesn’t believe in You –

or doesn’t believe You’re willing to use extreme measures
to turn around someone You truly care about.

They might chalk up the hailstorm to “natural causes”

ignoring the fact that every so-called “natural cause” out there
comes from Your hand.

I know better, LORD!

Now I need to act like it.

Take warning, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the wicked will be cut off from the land…”
(Proverbs 2:22)

Without a land to live in, Jesus

there’s no way to go home.

Of course, before You cut them off

the wicked believe they’re getting away with the evil they’re doing.

They don’t believe there’s a God in heaven who not only sees

but will do something about it.

But when they’re cut off, do they repent?

No.

They blame everyone else and curse You

till their dying breath.

Pray this Lazaroo in deep appreciation:

“…sufficient for him.”
(2 Corinthians 2:6)

Everything You do for me is sufficient, Jesus!

…not to mention unique.

What’s sufficient for me may not be for someone else.

Thank You for not giving me the one-size-fits-all treatment!

The way You reward me is different from what You do for everyone else.

So is the way You correct me.

But please help me remember that for others, it may be too much…too little…

…or need to be something else entirely.

Pray this Lazaroo with heightened incentive:

“…just as he had sworn to them.”
(Judges 2:15)

When You swear something to me, Jesus

it’s usually a good thing.

After all, when You swear it, it happens.

It’s something I can absolutely count on.

But in this case, what You swore to Israel was happening

and they didn’t like it.

If they forsook You,

You swore You would fight against them.

Since You keep all Your promises to me

I’d better keep all my promises to You.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“I struck all the work of your hands…”
(Haggai 2:17)

How could You, Jesus?

All that work done by Your people
ruined not by their enemies

but by their God.

Why?

Out of love.

You’ll do whatever’s necessary to get my attention and turn me around

before it’s too late.

The destruction of all my work is a small price to pay

for the salvation of my life.

It’s tough love, LORD!

But sometimes…
it’s the love I need.

Pray this Lazaroo with bulldog faith:

“They all march in line…”
(Joel 2:7)

It’s bad enough when my enemies show up one at a time, Jesus.

But when a horde of them lines up against me?

Not good.

Of course, this was a plague of locusts sent by You

against Your chronically rebellious people.

So as long as I stay obedient to You

I won’t have to face that fearsome sight.

Or if I do, I can remain confident

knowing You will surely rescue me.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“People from the Negev will occupy the mountains of Esau…”
(Obadiah 1:19)

When people living in the desert are able to capture mountain fortresses

it’s Your doing, Jesus.

Isaac’s twin sons Jacob and Esau didn’t get along very well –

especially after Jacob stole Esau’s blessing and birthright.

Even though the boys made up later in life

Esau’s descendants took out their anger on Jacob’s
…and triggered Yours.

Help me get over past hurts, Father!

so I can enjoy Your blessings.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…they scale walls like soldiers.”
(Joel 2:7)

There are a lot of ways to scale a wall, Jesus.

Some do it clumsily.
Many can’t do it at all.

But if I looked down from the top of the wall

and saw a battle-hardened warrior climbing toward me
fear would grip my heart.

That’s what Your people experienced when that army of locusts attacked –

the army You sent to punish them.

May You never!

have to do that to me.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Do not prophesy about these things…”
(Micah 2:6)

Most people are eager to hear a prophecy, Jesus

if they believe it’s true
if the prophecy predicts punishment for their enemies
and/or a happy future for them.

Obviously, that’s not the kind of prophecy You entrusted to Your prophet Micah.

Of course, there are false prophets
who prophesy only what their audience wants to hear.

But among Your true followers

those who prophesy such lies
have a limited shelf life.

Take warning as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…every face turns pale.”
(Joel 2:6)

Some faces turn pale over the smallest thing, Jesus.

But when every face turns pale
we’re talking about something truly terrifying.

You are so kind, so loving – even longsuffering.

It takes repeated, calloused, uncaring disobedience
to force You into doling out this kind of punishment
on the people You love with all Your heart.

But that’s what love does

when nothing else works

when the one You deeply cherish

no longer pays attention.
