Open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.”
(Revelation 3:18-19)

Thank You for loving me that much, Jesus!

Forgive me for not being grateful at the time.

I’m ashamed to admit that It’s only when I look back

that I can feel the love.

You could have abandoned me in my sin

but You didn’t!

Pray this Lazaroo with growing understanding:

“…with nothing to fear…The lion killed enough for his cubs and strangled the prey for his mate, filling his lairs with the kill and his dens with the prey.”
(Nahum 2:11-12)

This is imagery, Jesus.

You’re not really talking about lions.

You’re rebuking a sinful nation
who once acted like the king of beasts

but who now, because of their disobedience
have lost their fangs.

Do I live in such a country, Father?

Among a people once righteous and strong
who have forsaken You?

Pray this Lazaroo with eyes wide open:

“‘…the report…spreading among the…people is not good. If one person sins against another, God may mediate for the offender; but if anyone sins against the Lord, who will intercede for them?’ His sons, however, did not listen to their father’s rebuke, for it was the Lord’s will to put them to death.”
(1 Samuel 2:24-25)

Eli tried to correct his sons, Jesus…

but You knew their hearts were wicked to the core.
No amount of talk was going to deter them.

That…explains a lot.

Pray this Lazaroo with a melting heart:

“As she got up to glean, Boaz gave orders to his men, ‘Let her gather among the sheaves and don’t reprimand her. Even pull out some stalks for her from the bundles and leave them for her to pick up, and don’t rebuke her.’”
(Ruth 2:15-16)

Boaz was so deeply touched by Ruth’s loyalty and character, Jesus

…that he responded with some deeply touching words of his own.

May I so live

…that others will be inspired by what I say and do!

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.”
(Proverbs 3:11-12)

I don’t like to be disciplined, Jesus.

It’s upsetting to realize You’re disappointed in me!

As a result, my immaturity is showing, isn’t it?

I should welcome Your correction.
It’s a chance to learn, grow, improve.

It’s evidence that You love me –
that in me You find delight!

Learn from this bad example, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“If someone ventures a word with you, will you be impatient? But who can keep from speaking?”
(Job 4:2)

And so it begins to unravel, Jesus.

Job’s three friends were awesome
as long as they kept silent.

But now, Job’s friend Eliphaz can’t endure Job’s complaints without rebuking him.

Like Job, Eliphaz totally misreads what’s going on.
But that doesn’t stop him from giving his judgmental opinion.

How often have I done that, Father –

made a suffering person’s load heavier?

Pray this Lazaroo in repentant, trusting submission:

“O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.”
(Psalms 6:1)

Amen, Jesus!

Amen! and Amen! and Amen!

I know I deserve rebuke. I’m fully aware I need to be disciplined.

But not in Your anger, please LORD!
Not while You’re full of wrath!

And You never have.

You’ve walked me to the woodshed countless times
but it’s never been as bad as I’ve deserved.

Thank You!
Thank You!
Thank You!
Thank You!
Thank You!

Pray this Lazaroo with conviction:

“I said to Peter in front of them all…”
(Galatians 2:14)

One titan taking on another, Jesus –

the Apostle Paul confronting the Apostle Peter.

Paul, however, was the newbie.

Peter was one of the originals –
chosen by You to be one of Your inner circle.

So what gave Paul the courage and conviction to rebuke Peter?

It was very simple, wasn’t it?

Paul was right.
Peter was wrong.

When it comes to right and wrong

right must always prevail.

Sell out totally to God as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Yet I hold this against you…”
(Revelation 2:4)

Woah, Jesus…

not the words I want to hear from You.

I love Your countless words of encouragement, blessing and hope

Your promises – so many, so amazing, so true.

But when You have to call me in, sit me down and rebuke me?

Not so much.

It terrifies me.

It also saddens me – because You deserve so much better.

Still…I know there’s only reason You do that:

You love me.
