Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“But when [they] heard that the repairs to Jerusalem’s walls had gone ahead…they were very angry. They all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it. But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat.”
(Nehemiah 4:7-9)

This is what I need to do, when the forces of evil come against me, Jesus:

Pray my head off.
Take every action You show me to take.
Trust You for the outcome.

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“Malkijah, one of the goldsmiths, made repairs as far as the house of the temple servants and the merchants, opposite the Inspection Gate, and as far as the room above the corner; and between the room above the corner and the Sheep Gate the goldsmiths and merchants made repairs.”
(Nehemiah 3:31-32)

These were artisans and shopkeepers, Jesus – not builders.

But the wall of Your city was broken down!
So they did what had to be done.

No matter what I prefer to do

may I always be willing to do what needs to be done.

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“Above the Horse Gate, the priests made repairs, each in front of his own house. Next to them, Zadok son of Immer made repairs opposite his house.”
(Nehemiah 3:28-29)

It’s great to help others, Jesus

but You expect me to take care of my own business too.

True, I’m to put others ahead of myself.

But if I neglect my own responsibilities

I cease being a blessing
and become a burden.

It’s kind of tricky, isn’t it?

Please help me navigate it properly!

Pray this Lazaroo with grateful thanksgiving:

“…Palal son of Uzai worked opposite the angle and the tower projecting from the upper palace near the court of the guard. Next to him, Pedaiah son of Parosh and the temple servants living on the hill of Ophel made repairs up to a point opposite the Water Gate toward the east and the projecting tower.”
(Nehemiah 3:25-26)

The projecting tower was the king’s last refuge in case of danger.

Jesus, You are not only my last refuge

You are also my first refuge–
my hiding place at all times!

Pray this Lazaroo with a pleading heart:

“Hashabiah, ruler of half the district of Keilah, carried out repairs for his district. Next to him, the repairs were made by their fellow Levites under Binnui son of Henadad, ruler of the other half-district of Keilah.”
(Nehemiah 3:17-18)

These weren’t just leaders, Jesus.

They were rulers.

When people of this stature and authority get their hands dirty in order to respond to a crisis

it inspires everyone else to do likewise.

God give us such people at the very top!

Pray this Lazaroo with a responsive, willing heart:

“Next to him, the repairs were made by the Levites…”
(Nehemiah 3:17)

The Levites were incredibly busy, Jesus.

Their hands were already full!

They had to prepare to sing Psalms during Temple services

they performed construction and maintenance for the Temple
they served as guards, teachers and judges
and it was their responsibility to maintain the cities of refuge.

But they were needed, so they helped!

May that be my spirit

no matter how busy I think I am.
