Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: ‘Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?’ On hearing this, Jesus said to them, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’”
(Mark 2:16-17)

So if I don’t recognize that I’m a sick sinner, Jesus…

You didn’t come for me.

Oh, but I am!

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

Who knows? He may turn and relent…”
(Joel 2:14)

You Are Just, Jesus!

Your righteousness demands it.

You hate sin.
Sin has a penalty.

You’ve dished out that penalty countless times.

If You were only Just, though – who could stand?

We’ve all sinned
fallen short of Your glory.

But praise Your Holy Name, You’re also Merciful.

Again and again, You’ve treated us all
better than we deserve.

In behalf of those who themselves are merciful You declare:

Your tender Mercy
triumphs over judgment.

Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“…he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)…”
(2 Peter 2:7-8)

Am I tormented by the sin all around me, Jesus?

Or have I become numb to it, indifferent
shrugging it off as though it’s not that big of a deal?

Please. Help me always see sin

as You do.

Pray this Lazaroo in humble gratitude:

“All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.
(Romans 2:12-13)

I’m saved by Your gift of faith, Jesus

not by what I do or don’t do.

But evidence that I’ve received your gift of faith

is demonstrated by what I do

and don’t do.

Never forget it, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…when a righteous person turns from their righteousness and does evil, and I put a stumbling block before them, they will die. Since you did not warn them, they will die for their sin. The righteous things that person did will not be remembered, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.”
(Ezekiel 3:20)

I can’t just stand by and watch a good person self-destruct, Jesus.

I’ve got to do my best to get in their face, if necessary

and turn them around.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”
(Galatians 2:21)

Paul’s passionate for a reason, Jesus:

You’re the one speaking this truth through him!

I should do my best to live an absolutely holy life.

But no matter how hard I try, I’ll always fall short.

It’s Your grace – the loving price You paid for me on the cross

then rising from the dead –

that is my one, sure hope.

Pray this Lazaroo with lights out determination!

“…if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah…”
(2 Peter 2:5)

Now, why would You do that, Jesus?

Well, let’s see:

Noah was a righteous man.
He was blameless among the people of his time.
He walked with You.

Wow. No wonder he found favor in Your eyes!

I can either shake my head, admitting I’m no Noah…

or I can ask You to rise up within me in total transformation.

Pray this Lazaroo with, “Now, I get it!” faith:

“…God…has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in days to come.”
(Daniel 2:28)

I know You’re always right, just and fair, Jesus!

So why did you show the future to a heathen king?
There are a whole lot of righteous people who don’t get a peek!

Hmmm.

Is it to demonstrate that everyone belongs to You –
the good, bad and ugly?

Oh. Wait a minute!

Through Daniel and this sketchy king
You’re revealing the future to all of us!

Open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They will come trembling to the LORD…”
(Hosea 3:5)

That’s not a bad way to come to You, Jesus.

It sure beats coming to You full of pride.
It’s better than coming to You burning with anger.
It’s preferable to coming to You eaten up with doubt.

When I come to You with trembling

it’s because I realize how small I am
and how awesome You Are

how flawed and sinful I am
and how perfect, righteous and holy You Are.
