Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“‘Return, faithless people,’ declares the Lord, ‘for I am your husband. I will choose you—one from a town and two from a clan—and bring you to Zion. Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding.’”
(Jeremiah 3:14-15)

You know those who are Yours, Jesus –

no matter where we are
no matter what label has been placed on us
no matter what anyone thinks.

Look into my heart and see my love for You!

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.”
(Luke 2:19-21)

Help me treasure up everything You’re doing in my life, Jesus

and ponder them in my heart

to discern Your perfect will for my life!

Pray this Lazaroo with unshakable belief:

“So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.”
(Luke 2:16-18)

That’s what You want me to do, isn’t it, Jesus?

Spread the word concerning what has been told me about You

in Your holy Word

and in my own Deep, Daily, Moment-by-Moment

1on1 relationship with You.

Pray this Lazaroo with unshakable belief:

“Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests’…the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.’”
(Luke 2:13-15)

Oh, to have been there in that stunning moment, Jesus –

when the heavens opened!

But the Day is coming

when You will show me far more than that.

Pray this Lazaroo with fair warning:

“Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. Now the overseer…must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap.”
(1 Timothy 3:1-2, 7)

Evil people love to tear down Your leaders, Jesus.

It’s not hard to do.
Try though they might, leaders are imperfect people.

Guard the reputation of the sincere shepherds of Your flock!

May all their faults be minor
and their devotion to You shine for all to see.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“…there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.’”
(Luke 2:8-10)

Sometimes when You show up I’m afraid, Jesus

because I mistake what You’re doing for something bad.

But it isn’t.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The land by the sea will become pastures having wells for shepherds and pens for flocks.”
(Zephaniah 2:6)

This is how You punished Your disobedient nation, Jesus!

Wow.

You could have scorched the land, making it utterly useless for anything.

But You didn’t.
Instead, in the midst of Your disciplining anger

You turned the land they had defiled
into a blessing.

You’ve done that time and again for me!

Even while You’re correcting me
You’re blessing me in ways I would have never expected.

O God!
You Are Awesome!

Pray this Lazaroo with heartfelt gratitude:

“The land by the sea will become pastures having wells for shepherds…”
(Zephaniah 2:6)

That is so like You, Jesus!

Even while You punish

You bless.

You take away one thing

and give another.

It’s who You are: Loving, Generous, Forgiving, Merciful –

which is why I’m still drawing my next breath…

experiencing Your gracious gift of life…

walking this earth.

If that was not who You are

I would have been drawn, quartered and fried to a crisp

long, long ago.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“…whenever any of the people offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three-pronged fork in his hand while the meat was being boiled and would plunge the fork into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot. Whatever the fork brought up the priest would take for himself.”
(1 Samuel 2:12-14)

What a detestable abuse of power, Jesus!

You judged and punished Samuel’s sons

and you will surely judge and punish those
who abuse their power today!

Pray this Lazaroo in trembling fear:

“When a leader sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden…”
(Leviticus 4:22)

Let me reword the rest of that sentence, Jesus:

“…it’s bad news.”

Good that the leader didn’t mean to do it

bad that the leader didn’t know enough not to.

Being one of Your leaders is such an awesome privilege

and an incredibly fearful responsibility

because so much is at stake.

The only hope that leader has

is to stay deep, daily, moment-by-moment
1on1 with You.
