Pray this Lazaroo in growing understanding:

“Turn your face toward the siege of Jerusalem and with bared arm prophesy against her. I will tie you up with ropes so that you cannot turn from one side to the other until you have finished the days of your siege.”
(Ezekiel 4:7-8)

Just as You did with Ezekiel, Jesus

so You sometimes do with me.

You had given him a difficult task –

one he might have been tempted to abandon.

So You tied him to it.

That explains a whole lot of what’s happening in my life.

Pray this Lazaroo in the fear of God:

“…the king gave the order to Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he went out and struck Shimei down and he died. The kingdom was now established in Solomon’s hands.”
(1 Kings 2:46)

As politically incorrect as it is to say it, Jesus

if there is to be peace

sometimes someone has to

leave
be kicked out
or die.

Whenever possible, You want us to work things out with each other.

But some people are nothing but hell on earth

until the day they draw their last, divisive breath.

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“Let everyone call urgently on God.”
(Jonah 3:8)

When do I pray like this, Jesus?

When do ask everyone I know to pray like this?

Sometime it’s when there’s an opportunity to do something great.

But most of the time
it’s when I’ve run out of options
and disaster is imminent.

Is that happening anywhere in my life right now?

Anywhere in the lives of others?

Always.

Time for me – for all of us – to call urgently on You!

Pray this Lazaroo in patient readiness:

“I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be silent…But when I speak to you, I will open your mouth and you shall say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says.’”
(Ezekiel 3:26-27)

Sometimes silence is golden, Jesus.

Sometimes it’s disobedience –

or even worse –

cowardice.

It is my heart’s desire to be silent when You tell me to hush

and to be vocal when You tell me to speak.

In every moment of every day, Holy Spirit…

lead me!

Pray this Lazaroo with eyes right:

“‘In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.’ These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts…”
(Jude 1:18-19)

Doing what comes naturally sometimes works, Jesus

and sometimes doesn’t.

It’s unreliable!

Sometimes it leads to success
sometimes it leads me astray.

So that can’t be my mantra, my North Star.

I’ve got to line up whatever comes naturally

alongside the straightedge of Your Word

and do what comes supernaturally.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep gratitude:

“…my fellow workers.”
(Philemon 1:24)

What would I do without them, Jesus?

Sometimes they’re official –
employees working for the same company.

Sometimes they’re volunteers –
serving alongside me in Your church.

Sometimes they’re family members
helping me tackle a project
too big for me to handle alone.

They might even be a stranger
who helps me change a tire
when they see me on the side of the road.

But of this I’m certain:

every one of them has been sent by You.

Pray this Lazaroo in submissive recognition:

“…when we were torn away from you…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:17)

Clearly, that was a painful time, Jesus

but You allowed it.
It’s entirely possible that You caused it!

Why would You allow something so painful to happen to one of Your own?

It’s because not everything that’s painful is bad, isn’t it?
Sometimes pain is useful, instructive, essential, eye-opening.

No greater example of that hard truth exists

than the suffering You endured on the cross

for those you love.

Pray this Lazaroo with an eager to obey heart:

“Joshua and all the Israelites…went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over.”
(Joshua 3:1)

There are many reasons to camp before crossing over, Jesus.

Some of them good.

Others…not so much.

Sometimes it’s being afraid of the crossing
or fear of what’s on the other side.

At other times it’s procrastination
or a preference for the known, over the unknown.

But may I never hesitate to cross any river in my path

to go where You send me!

Pray this Lazaroo in unashamed desperation:

Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint; heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.”
(Psalms 6:2)

All over the world, Jesus

people battling COVID-19 are praying prayers very similar to this one.

But they’re not the only ones.

So are those battling sicknesses and diseases of every kind.

Nor does it stop with them.

They’re joined by men and women

caught in impossible situations of every imaginable –
and sometimes unimaginable – kind.

O God! Please!

Intervene!

Pray this Lazaroo with God-inspired anticipation:

“On the first day…”
(Jonah 3:4)

First days are momentous, Jesus!

They’re full of excitement, promise, hope, new beginnings.

Sometimes.

Of course, I can also dread a first day.

It may represent the unknown.
It may remind me that this is only one step in a very long journey.

But ultimately, I have to keep undertaking first days, don’t I?

If I don’t begin, I’ll never finish.

But I beg You:

Don’t let me begin anything outside of Your will!
