Pray this Lazaroo with heartfelt anticipation:

“I hope to visit you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete.”
(2 John 1:12)

Partial joy is good, Jesus.

It sure beats total sorrow!

Partial joys are little oases in the desert of life!

Thank You for every one You’ve given me.

But complete joy?

Whew! I was starting to think I’d have to wait till heaven for that one.

But if John can experience complete joy by visiting passionate believers

why can’t I?

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts. Therefore the prudent keep quiet in such times, for the times are evil.”
(Amos 5:12-13)

When the courts are corrupt, Jesus

to whom can we turn?

Only You.

When the courts are righteous

to whom can we turn?

Only You.

In good times and bad

in hard times and pleasant
in sickness and in health
in happiness and sorrow

to whom can we turn?

Only You.

Pray this Lazaroo in humbled repentance:

“Anyone who runs ahead…”
(2 John 1:9)

It’s hard to admit, Jesus

but I’ve been guilty of running ahead.

Inexcusably, I got tired of waiting on You.

After praying, I expected an immediate answer.

I gave no thought to Your superior understanding –

that compared to You, I was totally clueless.

So I went ahead with what I thought was best

only to discover to my sorrow

that anyone who runs ahead of Your perfect way and time

ends up running way, waaaaay behind.

Pray this Lazaroo with informed determination:

“Woe to you who live by the sea, you Kerethite people; the word of the Lord is against you, Canaan, land of the Philistines. He says, ‘I will destroy you’…”
(Zephaniah 2:5)

How does Your Word turn against me, Jesus?

It’s when I turn against Your Word, isn’t it?
That’s when utter destruction comes.

I’ll never turn against Your Word, Holy Father!

It’s a lamp to my feet
a light for my path
my comfort in great sorrow

my sure promise of eternal life.

Pray this Lazaroo with antennae up:

“…if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people…”
(2 Peter 2:5)

I think I can see where this is going, Jesus.

You’re pointing out the punishment
You were forced to mete out years ago

to remind me that You’re the same
yesterday, today and forever.

Yes, You’re slow to anger.

But if I mistake Your loving patience for weakness

I will discover to my sorrow
that my sins will find me out.

Pray this Lazaroo in stunned gratitude:

“The LORD will…again choose…”
(Zechariah 2:12)

When I’ve done what I shouldn’t have, Jesus

sinning against You

when my sins have forced You to discipline me

bringing me pain, sorrow, suffering, excruciating regret

it can feel like You and I will never be close again
that I’ve forever lost the precious intimacy we had –

until, in repentance, I look up in happy, near disbelief

to realize You choose once again

to experience deep, daily, moment-by-moment

1on1 relationship with me.

Pray this Lazaroo in heartfelt gratitude:

“…see…the oppression among her people.”
(Amos 3:9)

You do see, Jesus!

You see and care.

That means so much to me!

To know it breaks Your heart too
is comfort in our sorrow.

But even more, to know that You’re All-Powerful

and that even while the oppression is going on
Your plan to intervene in Your perfect way and time

is operational.

It’s my responsibility to fight oppression.

But You’re the only one who can stop it in its tracks.

Pray this Lazaroo – overwhelmed with gratitude:

“…all the ungodly acts they have done…”
(Jude 1:15)

They say the Internet never forgets, Jesus –

that once I post something
it’s out there, somewhere in the ether, forever.

That used to be the case with my ungodly acts, didn’t it?

But no more.

In sorrow and repentance I’ve confessed my sins to You.

You’ve forgiven me.
Forever.

You’ve permanently, irrevocably blotted them out of Your mind

completely removing them –
as far as the east is from the west.

Pray this Lazaroo with a broken heart:

“…Rachel weeping for her children…”
(Matthew 2:18)

A lot of us are following Rachel’s lead, Jesus

weeping for our children

some of us because our children have died, like Rachel’s

but far more because they’ve gone astray

rejected their upbringing
turned their backs on You

been sucked in by addictions
deceived by the fleeting pleasures of sin.

May my grief not be limited to biological children and grandchildren

but extend to the children of this generation.

Help me
help them!
