“Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully.”
(2 John 1:8)

You deserve my obedience Jesus.

If I serve You perfectly in every way
You owe me nothing.

But You love me so much that You long to reward me anyway!

if only I don’t blow it by disobeying You.

You don’t owe me any incentive whatsoever to stay true to You

but that’s exactly what You just gave me.

That explains a whole lot, Jesus!

You sometimes bring – or allow –
difficult, even evil people to enter my life

to test me!

You’re teaching me to overcome the temptation
to cast aside my faith in You and do wrong.

It’s pretty hard to teach me that

if I never run into any opposition.

You want to bless us, Jesus.

You love to bless us.
You long to bless us!

But if we persist in our sins

we prevent You from blessing us as you so deeply desire.

Oh, in Your loving mercy You continue to bless us in countless ways –

in ways we so often ignore –

but not nearly as much as You would have blessed us

if only we had stayed true to You.
