Pray this Lazaroo in humble awareness:

“He overlaid the ceiling beams, doorframes, walls and doors of the temple with gold…”
(2 Chronicles 3:7)

Well…not exactly, Jesus.

Solomon ordered the work done.
It wouldn’t have happened without him.

But he didn’t personally overlay anything.
It was the workers who performed that golden task.

Leaders are essential…

…but so are workers.

Neither can succeed without the other.

Sometimes I’m the leader
sometimes I’m a worker.

But in whichever role I serve You

remind me to respect the other.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the gold he used was gold of Parvaim.”
(2 Chronicles 3:6)

No one today knows the location of Parvaim, Jesus.

But it’s telling that when it came time to decorate Your temple
Solomon refused to use whatever gold was easily available.

Instead, he sought out the finest, purest gold
and paid whatever price necessary
to give You the best.

That’s the desire of my heart, Father!

You deserve the very best
because You give Your very best to me.

Pray this Lazaroo in lavish worship:

“He adorned the temple with precious stones.”
(2 Chronicles 3:6)

As he oversaw the building of the temple

Solomon did his best to honor, worship and exalt you, Jesus.

That’s the desire of my heart!

I’m sure You enjoyed those precious stones, Father

but I have none to give.

What I’m offering You is the best of who I am and what You’ve given me.

Everything that is mine came from Your hand.

Back into Your hands they go.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The foundation Solomon laid for building the temple of God was sixty cubits long and twenty cubits wide…”
(2 Chronicles 3:3)

There’s never been another temple like it, Jesus –

but that makes me think:

What kind of foundation am I building?

Solomon did a great job laying the foundation for Your physical temple

but his spiritual foundation didn’t hold.

It all started when he disobeyed you in seemingly small ways

first this…then that.

But there’s nothing small about disobedience.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD…”
(Ezra 3:10)

Well…they did and they didn’t, Jesus.

Of course Your Word is accurate.
The builders did lay a physical foundation.

But there’s another sense in which no human builder could ever lay the foundation for Your temple

because no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid:

You.

Every other foundation anyone lays

is laid on my Creator and Savior
the only sure Foundation.

Pray this Lazaroo in awe:

“…before one stone was laid on another in the LORD’S temple.”
(Haggai 2:15)

I’m thinking of a stonemason who’s built a hundred buildings, Jesus

but never one like this.

Your temple!

The place dedicated to You, to Your glory
the sacred heart of Israel where You chose to dwell.

Would that stonemason have trembled as he picked up his first stone?

Do I…

as I prepare to offer my service

to the one and only
God of the ages?

Pray this Lazaroo with keen anticipation:

“Then Solomon began to build the temple of the LORD…”
(2 Chronicles 3:1)

I can only imagine the joy of that moment, Jesus!

Solomon’s father David had longed for this privilege
but You would not allow him to build your temple.

Solomon knew You had saved this honor for him.

Based on the prayer he prayed at its completion
he was thrilled…and deeply humbled.

What have you saved for me to do, Father?

Please.
Don’t let me miss it.

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“He assigned…80,000 to be stonecutters…”
(2 Chronicles 2:18)

Not an easy job, Jesus.

Stone cutting requires skill, strength, training.

Not a particularly safe job, either.

Pieces of stone can put out an eye.
Hammers can miss their mark and crush

hands
fingers
arms
legs
feet.

Still, the job had to be done.

Your temple had to be built.

Many of the jobs You assign are like that –

requiring skill, strength, training, risk-taking courage –

because Your kingdom has to be built.
