Pray this Lazaroo with deep concern:

“They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.”
(2 Peter 2:13)

So let me get this straight, Jesus…

these people are shamelessly sinning like crazy
and still going to church?

You detest that.
They won’t get away with it.

Please let me know

if there’s something I can do or say to turn them around

before it’s too late.

Pray this Lazaroo in compassionate urgency:

“…these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like animals they too will perish. They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight.”
(2 Peter 2:12-13)

My country’s disobedience has reached this very level, Jesus.

The God-defiant are gathering in large numbers
carousing in broad daylight.

Your judgment is on its way.

Please help me rescue as many as possible
before it’s too late.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“…like animals they too will perish. They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done.”
(2 Peter 2:12-13)

That’s both a harsh word, Jesus

and an immensely comforting one.

Do I want everyone to get what they deserve?

No.

In that case, I’d go to hell.

But when evil people arrogantly, relentlessly, unrepentantly harm others?

The purity of Your righteousness
demands an accounting.

Nevertheless, I will pray for their repentance and restoration

until it’s too late.

Pay extremely close attention, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…take an iron pan, place it as an iron wall between you and the city and turn your face toward it…This will be a sign to the people of Israel. Then lie on your left side and put the sin of the people of Israel upon yourself.”
(Ezekiel 4:3-4)

How many times, Jesus

have You called on Your prophets, preachers and pastors
to be a sign to Your sinning people

to repent, change their hearts and their evil ways
before it’s too late?

Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit:

“‘I sent plagues among you as I did to Egypt. I killed your young men with the sword, along with your captured horses. I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camps, yet you have not returned to me,’ declares the Lord.”
(Amos 4:10)

When these things happen to us, Jesus

we think You’ve abandoned us.

But no! You haven’t!

You’re shaking us awake
getting our attention

inciting us to return to You
before it’s too late.

Set your heart for rapid response as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Then you replied, ‘We have sinned against the Lord. We will go up and fight, as the Lord our God commanded us.’”
(Deuteronomy 1:41)

They changed their minds too late, Jesus!

Their opportunity came and went.

True, You’re a forgiving God.

You give us chance after chance
over and over again.

But there’s a time for everything.

Sometimes, my refusal to obey the first time
causes me to miss my window of opportunity.

Instant obedience

is the only wise way, isn’t it?

Open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Before them…the sun and moon are darkened, and the stars no longer shine.”
(Joel 2:10)

I can hardly imagine an army of locusts so dense, Jesus…

that all the lights of the sky are blocked from sight
covered in a thick, undulating blanket.

No ordinary locust swarm, that.

You sent a plague of supernatural locusts on Your people

a terrifying invasion of epic proportions.

You warned them again and again!

But they ignored You until

it was too late.

Pray this Lazaroo in full awareness of your True Source:

“The eyes of the arrogant will be humbled…”
(Isaiah 2:11)

Arrogance goes beyond pride, doesn’t it, Jesus?

A person may be Your humble follower
and still be gratefully proud –

knowing it’s You who do it all through them.

But arrogant people pound their chests and point to themselves.

They don’t believe they need Your help or anyone else’s.
They’re their own god.

But one day – when they stand before the true God –

they will be utterly humbled.

Too late.

Pray this Lazaroo with overwhelming gratitude:

“Jonah obeyed the word of the LORD…”
(Jonah 3:3)

Finally, Jesus.

After he disobeyed You the first time.
After he ran from You.
After You had to scare the living daylights out of him.

Now he obeys.

Sadly, I can identify!

How many times have You had to correct me
turn me around?

You could say, “Too late, Bucko! I’m sick and tired of you.”

But You don’t.

With loving, forgiving arms open wide

You welcome me back home.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning desire:

“Remember the height from which you have fallen!”
(Revelation 2:5)

That’s a hard command to obey, Jesus.

Absolutely brutal.

If fills me with guilt –

because I know I didn’t have to fall.

If only I had stayed consistent!

plugging away
determined
one step at a time

I’d be looking down on that height

instead of up at it.

Nothing I can about it now.
What’s done is done.

But that glance at where I once was
inspires me to go after it again.
