Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“…from Jesus Christ…”
(2 John 1:3)

I’ll take anything that comes from You, Jesus!

Anything.

You do all things well. Make that: perfectly.

You’re generous beyond all measure.
You’re the Giver of every good gift.

I know.

That includes some things I won’t like.
At the time.

But I trust You!

I know that anything You do to me or require of me that is hard, distasteful or even heartbreaking

is not only for Your good
but for mine.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“Why were there knees to receive me and breasts that I might be nursed?”
(Job 3:12)

What a heartbreak, Jesus!

Job is in such pain that he wishes he had been allowed
to starve to death as an infant, uncared for and unloved.

That’s how Satan attempts to pervert my response to pain.

He tries to twist it
to blind me into hating what is good

to turn me against You.

No. Never.

In my pain
I trust You.

Pray this Lazaroo in ardent love:

“She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves behind the harvesters.’”
(Ruth 2:7)

Sometimes that’s the way it goes, Jesus.

You put me in a place that requires
being needy, humbled, bringing up the rear.

I can fight it, if I wish

or I can trust You.

You know what’s best for me.

I don’t.

Besides, leading the pack isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

They’re the first to get shot at.

Back here is fine.

Pray this Lazaroo…in faith:

“Why did I not perish at birth, and die as I came from the womb?”
(Job 3:11)

Job was in agony, Jesus!

wishing he’d never survived that shortest
and longest of all journeys

the trip from the safety of mother
to first breath in the outside world.

But he was wrong.

His suffering was short-lived.
You blessed him more at last than at first.

If only mothers about to abort their babies

could trust You to do the same.

Pray this Lazaroo with bolstered faith:

“Moses said to God, ‘Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them…’”
(Exodus 3:13)

He’s stalling, isn’t He, Jesus?

In the middle of the desert Moses hears Your voice.
It’s coming from a flaming bush that doesn’t burn up

– and that’s not enough for Him?

What – did You have to spell it out for him in writing?

Oh…wait a minute.

You’ve already done that for me, haven’t You?
I guess that leaves me with no excuse.

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“May its morning stars become dark…”
(Job 3:9)

Because of his suffering, Jesus

Job curses the day of his birth.

Normally, birthdays are joyous occasions.

No more.
Not for Job.

His life has become too bitter.

Now he wants the day of his birth to become a bleak, dark day

a cause for mourning
the brightest stars extinguished.

But little does he know the happiness You have planned for him

if he will only hold on
a little longer.

Pray this Lazaroo in total trust:

“Flee from the land of the north…”
(Zechariah 2:6)

I love it when You tell me where to go, Jesus.

It makes things simple.
I know exactly what to do to please You.

At other times, You tell me to get out of the place I’m in.

That’s pretty simple, too –
at least the getting-out part.

My next question is, “Where to?”

But in Your time, You’ll show me, won’t You?

Before I leave…
or along the way.
