Pray this Lazaroo in corrected gratitude:

“Of what value is an idol carved by a craftsman? Or an image that teaches lies? For the one who makes it trusts in his own creation; he makes idols that cannot speak.”
(Habakkuk 2:18)

I’ve never carved an idol, Jesus.

I would never do such a thing.

But am I trusting anything I’ve created?
Anything some other human has created?

Do I think they have the power to

heal me
make me happy
put food on my table?

I know better than that!

Only You, LORD!
Only You.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy fear:

“The violence you have done to Lebanon will overwhelm you…”
(Habakkuk 2:17)

So what they sowed, Jesus

You’re going to make sure they reap.

They treated Lebanon violently
and with violence they will be treated.

I’ve sowed some bad seed myself, Father

seed I most assuredly do not wish to reap!

But I’ve forsaken my past sins.

I’ve repented, turned to You with all my heart

trusting in Your incomparable love, mercy and forgiveness.

Pray this Lazaroo bursting with confidence:

“When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews, and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said, ‘What are those feeble Jews doing’”
(Nehemiah 4:1-2)

To my enemies, Jesus

I may look feeble.

But if my enemies are Your enemies

my enemies are underestimating what You’re able to do

through one of Your feeble followers
who puts all my trust in You.

Pray this Lazaroo with unvarnished transparency:

“My groans are many…”
(Lamentations 1:22)

I can usually do a lot of groaning

before I realize it, Jesus.

Other people might complain about my complaints

while they only seem justified to me.

But when I’m the one who notices I’m doing a lot of groaning

that’s an indication that things have become

pretty intense.

Do You get tired of hearing me groan, Father?

Or are You waiting for me to turn them
into believing, trusting, heartfelt prayers?

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“…there is no end to their treasures.”
(Isaiah 2:7)

At least that’s how it seems, Jesus.

Some of the world’s worst people
seem to have more than their share of the best.

While some of the world’s best people
seem to experience more than their share of the worst.

But the operative word is:

“seems.”

What seems a certain way to me

is seldom – if ever – the case.

You alone know what’s really going on.

And I trust You.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“…you…by your teaching have caused many to stumble…”
(Malachi 2:8)

Teachers are so important – to every one of us, Jesus!

But if teachers can’t be trusted…

if they twist the knowledge they share
if they mislead the trusting, the naïve, the ignorant

everyone who sits under them
is at risk.

True, those who blindly follow their teachers share the blame.

But the teacher who deliberately sticks out a foot to trip them
is at the greatest risk of all.
