Pray this Lazaroo with rock-solid confidence:

“With a blinding flash he destroys the stronghold and brings the fortified city to ruin. There are those who hate the one who upholds justice in court and detest the one who tells the truth.”
(Amos 5:9-10)

You see what’s going on, Jesus!

To us, it feels like You refuse to do anything about it.

It does, that is…

until in one moment
You utterly ruin the wicked!

Help me to trust Your perfect way and time.

You alone know

When
How
Why!

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“The pride of your heart has deceived you…”
(Obadiah 1:3)

Pride will do that, Jesus.

The moment I get to thinking it’s all me

and forget that everything I have is from You

I’ve committed the same fatal mistake as Your angel Lucifer

who lost his place in heaven.

“Pride goes before destruction,
a haughty spirit before a fall.”

May I never forget:

You’re the Giver of every good and perfect gift!

I’m the totally, wholly, utterly

unworthy recipient.

Take warning, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…you will be utterly despised.”
(Obadiah 1:2)

Whew! That’s a tough one, Jesus!

But that was the punishment You meted out against Edom
the people descended from Jacob’s older brother.

Why?

Because of the calloused cruelty they exhibited
toward Your hurting, chosen people.

No matter how low one of Your flawed believers sinks

may I never pile on while You’re disciplining them

and risk becoming one of the “utterly despised.”

It’s not my place to add to their misery

lest some of their misery becomes mine.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.”
(Genesis 3:20)

You gave Adam the privilege of naming every animal in the Garden of Eden, Jesus.

But when Adam named Eve
that was utterly, profoundly different.

He knew it.

So he named her in accordance
with what she would become.

Adam was the first man.
Eve was the first woman.

Adam knew every child born in the future
would come from them.

Who will experience New Birth, Father…

because of me?

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The land by the sea will become pastures having wells for shepherds and pens for flocks.”
(Zephaniah 2:6)

This is how You punished Your disobedient nation, Jesus!

Wow.

You could have scorched the land, making it utterly useless for anything.

But You didn’t.
Instead, in the midst of Your disciplining anger

You turned the land they had defiled
into a blessing.

You’ve done that time and again for me!

Even while You’re correcting me
You’re blessing me in ways I would have never expected.

O God!
You Are Awesome!

Pray this Lazaroo in unbounded gratitude:

“…the priest…shall… burn it on the altar on top of the food offerings presented to the Lord…In this way the priest will make atonement for them for any of these sins they have committed, and they will be forgiven. The rest of the offering will belong to the priest.’”
(Leviticus 5:12-13)

I’m so thankful that I don’t have to do this anymore, Jesus.

On the cross You gave Your life to become my sin offering.

I am wholly, completely, utterly forgiven!

Pray this Lazaroo in full awareness of your True Source:

“The eyes of the arrogant will be humbled…”
(Isaiah 2:11)

Arrogance goes beyond pride, doesn’t it, Jesus?

A person may be Your humble follower
and still be gratefully proud –

knowing it’s You who do it all through them.

But arrogant people pound their chests and point to themselves.

They don’t believe they need Your help or anyone else’s.
They’re their own god.

But one day – when they stand before the true God –

they will be utterly humbled.

Too late.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“…you have…shown partiality in matters of the law.”
(Malachi 2:9)

Not something that pleases You, Jesus.

You gave Your law to be applied equally, fairly, to all.
Instead, they used it inconsistently

holding some to its righteous standards
excusing others.

I can’t begin to imagine how displeased You are

with my inconsistency, LORD.

Please forgive me!
I am utterly without excuse.

All I can do is give it everything I’ve got

and beg You to be Yourself in me.

Pray this Lazaroo with faith in the God who can:

“…the slave is freed from his master.”
(Job 3:19)

Pretty fitting on this 4th of July, Jesus!

There came a day in the history of these United States
when we could no longer endure England’s rule.

But Job was referring to death –

which, because of his pain
looked mighty good to him at that time.

O God!

Help me truly, utterly, completely, irrevocably die
to my old sin master Satan

and walk in the freedom

of obedience to You.
