Pray this Lazaroo with fiery determination:

“Instead of fragrance there will be a stench; instead of a sash, a rope; instead of well-dressed hair, baldness; instead of fine clothing, sackcloth; instead of beauty, branding. Your men will fall by the sword, your warriors in battle. The gates of Zion will lament and mourn; destitute, she will sit on the ground.”
(Isaiah 3:24-26)

So this is what a curse looks like, Jesus

Your punishment –

doled out not upon the heathen
but upon Your people, who’ve forsaken You.

Keep me true, Jesus!

May Your curse never fall on me.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep conviction:

“The sons of Ulam were brave warriors who could handle the bow. They had many sons and grandsons—150 in all.”
(1 Chronicles 8:40)

The ability to handle a bow is a gift, Jesus.

Without that gift, no one can be great at it.

But just because I’ve been given a gift

doesn’t mean I don’t have to develop it
and practice, practice, practice.

Show me the gifts You’ve given me, Holy Spirit!

and give me the determination to develop them
to their full, life-changing potential.

Pray this Lazaroo with a heart sensitive to the needs of others:

“Your lips are like a scarlet ribbon; your mouth is lovely. Your temples behind your veil are like the halves of a pomegranate. Your neck is like the tower of David, built with courses of stone; on it hang a thousand shields, all of them shields of warriors.”
(Song of Songs 4:3-4)

I’m not sure those compliments would work today, Jesus

especially not the pomegranate and tower of David.

But it’s good to pay compliments, isn’t it?

Even when they miss
those who receive them
surely appreciate the attempt.

Plead with God, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the LORD…was with the judge…”
(Judges 2:18)

Back in the day, Jesus…

Your judges were more than deciders of disputes.
They were leaders and warriors.

Today, our judges mostly sit behind big, imposing desks

listen to each side make its case and make rulings.

Even so…

oh, how we need You to be with our judges!

Some of them take the bench with hidden evil intent.

Block them! Remove them!

Even better, Great God, Judge of All:

Change them.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“…the LORD raised up a judge for them…”
(Judges 2:18)

Yes, these judges settled disputes, Jesus…

but they were far more than that.

They were leaders, examples, warriors –

courageous people willing to go first
take initiative, exercise responsibility.

God give us men and women like that in our age!

We have a few…
but at least to me –

it looks like we need many more.

You’re the only one who can raise up such people.

Please!

Send them out.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…they scale walls like soldiers.”
(Joel 2:7)

There are a lot of ways to scale a wall, Jesus.

Some do it clumsily.
Many can’t do it at all.

But if I looked down from the top of the wall

and saw a battle-hardened warrior climbing toward me
fear would grip my heart.

That’s what Your people experienced when that army of locusts attacked –

the army You sent to punish them.

May You never!

have to do that to me.
