Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“I slept but my heart was awake. Listen! My beloved is knocking: ‘Open to me, my sister, my darling, my dove, my flawless one. My head is drenched with dew, my hair with the dampness of the night.’ I have taken off my robe—must I put it on again? I have washed my feet—must I soil them again?”
(Song of Songs 5:2-3)

Yes, Jesus

She must.

That’s the price of love.

It’s no longer what I want.
It’s what they want.

Pray this Lazaroo with attentive dedication:

“…praying in the Holy Spirit…”
(Jude 1:20)

There’s praying in myself, Jesus –

Telling You what I want
letting You know what I’m thinking.

That’s okay.
You understand.

But there’s another level, isn’t there?

It’s asking what You want

listening to Your reply in my heart
listening to Your reply as I study Your Word
listening to Your reply through life events
listening to Your reply through Your servants

all the while measuring everything I’m hearing

by the whole of Scripture.

Pray this Lazaroo in utter trust:

“…we wanted to come to you…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:18)

I don’t always get what I want, Jesus.

It’s kind of comforting to note:

Neither did Paul!

Maybe I should rephrase that:

“I don’t always get what I think I want.”

You’ve let me have my way enough times to prove to me:

Sometimes what looks good from a distance

isn’t at all good up close.

I don’t need any more proof, Father.

Give me only what You know is best!

Pray this Lazaroo in painful recognition:

“…the lust of the eyes…”
(1 John 2:16)

When you use that word, “lust,” Jesus

it makes it hard to admit.

Oh, sure – there are certain things I see and would like to have

but I wouldn’t call what I’m feeling “lust.”

What sobers me, however, is this haunting question:

Is “lust” what You call it?

If You do
then that’s what it is.

I have this tendency to regard the sins I commit as minor.

But do You?
