Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.”
(1 Timothy 3:2-3)

Those are a lot of requirements, Jesus.

No wonder some people see them
and back away from pursuing this holy office.

But these are the bare minimums!

Isn’t this the holy life to which You’ve called
absolutely every one of us?

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…David sent messengers…demanding, ‘Give me my wife Michal’…So Ish-Bosheth gave orders and had her taken away from her husband Paltiel…Her husband, however, went with her, weeping behind her all the way to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, ‘Go back home!’ So he went back.”
(2 Samuel 3:14-16)

Paltiel knew King Saul gave him Michal to spite David, Jesus.

Did he surrender her to do what was right

or because he was afraid of Abner?

May no one have to threaten me, Father!

to make me do what’s right.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“Now Boaz, with whose women you have worked, is a relative of ours. Tonight he will be winnowing barley on the threshing floor. Wash, put on perfume, and get dressed in your best clothes. Then go down to the threshing floor, but don’t let him know you are there until he has finished eating and drinking.”
(Ruth 3:2-3)

Naomi had it all planned out for her widowed daughter-in-law, Jesus.

It worked.
Boaz and Ruth became husband and wife.

But never let me forget:

It works
o
nly when You work it.

Pray this Lazaroo in sudden realization:

“‘I demand one thing of you: Do not come into my presence unless you bring Michal daughter of Saul when you come to see me.’ Then David sent messengers to Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, demanding, ‘Give me my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to myself for the price of a hundred Philistine foreskins.’”
(2 Samuel 3:13-14)

David refused to abandon his wife, for whom he risked his life, Jesus

just as You refuse to abandon me
for whom You paid with Your life!

Take note! as you Pray this Lazaroo:

“‘The man who hates and divorces his wife,’ says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘does violence to the one he should protect,’ says the Lord Almighty. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful.”
(Malachi 2:16)

To the newlywed husband and wife, Jesus

those words are unnecessary and unthinkable!

But with the passage of time

and the inevitable sins they commit against one another

Your warning to every husband whom Satan incites to abuse his wife

is essential.

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“Sons were born to Shaharaim in Moab after he had divorced his wives Hushim and Baara. By his wife Hodesh he had Jobab, Zibia, Mesha, Malkam, Jeuz, Sakia and Mirmah. These were his sons, heads of families.”
(1 Chronicles 8:8-10)

I can’t identify with multiple wives, Jesus.

And I know how much You hate divorce.

But I sure can testify that no matter how messed up our lives…

You – and You alone! – have the power to turn them around.

Pray this Lazaroo with growing understanding:

“To Adam he said, ‘Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, “You must not eat from it,” Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.’”
(Genesis 3:17)

You told Abraham to listen to his wife, Jesus.

So that’s not what got Adam cursed.

It was when he listened to his wife

instead of You.

Pray this Lazaroo in thudding realization:

“’I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.’ To the woman he said, ‘I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.’”
(Genesis 3:15-16)

First You punished the serpent, Jesus

then You punished the woman.

The man’s next, isn’t He?

For deliberate sin

there’s a price.

Pray this Lazaroo with wholehearted adoration:

“To the woman he said, ‘I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.’”
(Genesis 3:16)

You ensure that every sin has a consequence, Jesus.

The bigger the sin
the bigger the consequence.

The good news?

You reward every good thought, word or deed.

Let’s see…

which would I like to make my goal? 😉

Pray this Lazaroo with riveted attention:

“You weep and wail because he no longer looks with favor on your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands. You ask, ‘Why?’ It is because the Lord is the witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have been unfaithful to her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.”
(Malachi 2:13-14)

Marriage vows are no joke to You, Jesus.

When we make them
You expect us to keep them.
