Pray this Lazaroo with admiration:

“The Fountain Gate was repaired by Shallun…ruler of the district of Mispah.”
(Nehemiah 3:15)

Shallun was a ruler, Jesus – obviously an important man in his day.

But the only time he’s mentioned in the entire Bible

is when he set aside his administrative garments
and put on work clothes.

Help me remember that, LORD!

Sometimes You want me to get my hands dirty.

Oh, not with the deeds of sin
but with the good, honest dirt

of hard work.

Pray this Lazaroo with locked-in faith:

“…it has been granted to you…”
(Philippians 1:29)

I like to think of myself as somebody who’s earned it, Jesus

a person who works hard to get what I’ve got.

But that’s such a self-delusion!

Everything I have…am…know…do
has been granted.

My very self, life, parents, circumstances, gifts, experiences, emotions –

all are gifts from Your loving, generous hand.

Rather than bragging in self-congratulation

pounding my chest with off-putting pride

I should be humbled – filled to the brim with gratitude.

 Pray this Lazaroo with humility:

“Next to him Meshullam son of Berekiah, the son of Meshezabel, made repairs, and next to him Zadok son of Baana also made repairs.”
(Nehemiah 3:4)

That’s what it takes to accomplish a great task, isn’t it, Jesus?

a lot of people doing their part.

They might not do it as well as I would.

They might do it better. 😉

I do have to work like it all depends on me

without ever forgetting
that it doesn’t.
