Be forewarned, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The woman said to the serpent…”
(Genesis 3:2)

Correct me if I’m wrong, Jesus:

Wasn’t allowing herself to be drawn into a conversation with Satan
Eve’s first mistake?

I’m not likely to come out on top of such an exchange, am I?

Satan has been around for millennia.
I’m a wet-behind-the-ears newcomer.

Before he sends one of his minions to engage me in conversation

he studies me to discover my weaknesses
exposes my greatest vulnerability.

I’m better off to tell him what You did:

“Go!”

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful awareness:

“I gave them to him…”
(Malachi 2:5)

What have You given me, Jesus?

Specifically…what have You given me

that I’m overlooking?

Some things are obvious:

You’ve given me life, air to breathe, a unique personality.
You’ve given me a beating heart, food, clothing, shelter.

But what abilities have You bestowed on me

that I’m taking for granted?

What experiences have You afforded me

that You intend for me to leverage?

If I’ve been ignoring an unopened package

please point it out.

Be filled with awe, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“‘I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the LORD…”
(Zechariah 2:5)

Talk about a fireworks display, Jesus!

I’ve seen some good ones
but nothing like this.

Be a wall of fire around my country, LORD!

Root out sin!
Expose its promises for what they are:

lies.

Enable us to grasp the critical difference between

freedom
and license.

Establish righteousness from sea to shining sea!

Inspire us to return to Your Word, Your Truth, Your Ways

and cause Your explosive fire
to
burn hot in me.

Be filled with hope, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“‘Yes,’ the priests replied…”
(Haggai 2:13)

There’s something about the word, “Yes,” Jesus.

It’s warm, affirmative, hope-filled.

When spoken by those who represent You

it’s also powerful
maybe even a blessing…

…depending on the question.

When I ask if something I dread has taken place
the last thing I want to hear is, “Yes.”

But when I ask, “Do I belong to You, Jesus? Am I saved? Will I go to heaven?”

the answer above all others I long to hear is:

“Yes.”

Trust in God’s understanding as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…a day of trumpet and battle cry…”
(Zephaniah 1:16)

I’ve had a few days like that, Jesus

noise, confusion, surrounded by trouble
conflicts everywhere I turn.

There comes a point when it’s too much.

All I want to do is get away
find someplace quiet, where I can think straight.

But does such a place exist?

Most of the people who cause me problems
know how to find me.

Where can I go…but to You, LORD?

You alone are my refuge.

Ask God for 20/20 spiritual vision, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…wine betrays him…”
(Habakkuk 2:5)

Wine is pretty good at that, Jesus.

It can give me a feeling of false happiness and security.

When I’m down, depressed, discouraged, despondent, it’s pretty tempting.

Instant feel-good.

But it doesn’t solve my problem

doesn’t address the causes of my unhappiness.

It just disguises them

paints a happy face on a hangman’s shroud

fools me into thinking things are better than they are

until the wine wears off
and I go in search

of more wine.

Be filled with joy, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Celebrate your festivals…”
(Nahum 1:15)

I love this about You, Jesus!

You don’t want me to keep a sour face.
You love to see me smile.
You love to hear me laugh.

You’re not the author of some dank, dark, depressing religion.

You came to give me all-out, joy-filled, happily radiant life to the full.

It’s Satan who ruins lives

making big promises he can’t keep.

Certainly, the Christian life is full of huge challenges.
Following You isn’t always easy.

But it’s best.

Pray this Lazaroo in deep humility:

“You will no longer walk proudly…”
(Micah 2:3)

I have a choice, don’t I, Jesus?

I can wait for You to humble me
or I can humble myself.

But whichever I choose

I will be humbled.

Knowing that makes my choice crystal clear:

I’d rather do it myself.

So how?

Actually, come to think of it, it’s pretty easy:

All I have to do is take a look in the mirror

remembering the countless sins I’ve committed
and the countless good deeds I’ve left undone.
