Pray this Lazaroo in holy anticipation:

“She would not return to the king unless he was pleased with her and summoned her by name.”
(Esther 2:14)

I’m so thankful that You summoned me by name, Jesus.

I’m no generic person to You
lost in the billions.

To You, I’m one-in-a-trillion

the only one of my kind
fashioned by You for Your good pleasure

and mine.

You want to thoroughly enjoy me

and want me to thoroughly enjoy You.

You know what?
I’m up for that, Father!

Let’s go.

Pray this Lazaroo with sharpened eye…and humble heart:

“…entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.”
(2 Timothy 2:2)

It takes both, doesn’t it, Jesus?

I need someone who has the ability to do the job right
but it won’t mean a thing if he doesn’t show up for work.

I need someone I can count on to be there every time
but it’s not much help if she doesn’t know what to do

when she gets there.

Of course, while I’m building my team, it might be a good idea

to be the kind of person I’m looking for.

Pray this Lazaroo in heartfelt gratitude to God:

“The men of Jericho built the adjoining section, and Zaccur son of Imri built next to them.”
(Nehemiah 3:2)

It matters who’s building next to me, Jesus

and how they’re building.

What I build helps them
what they build helps me

what we build together
serves You.

Of course, no matter how well they build

they’re probably not going to do it the way I would.

But what a blessing!

when You place someone next to me who’s building
rather than tearing down.

Take warning, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.”
(1 Timothy 1:20)

That’s an important lesson, Jesus:

Don’t blaspheme –
don’t speak disrespectfully against You.

I’d rather not be handed over to Satan to learn it.

In fact, here’s the way I want to learn all my lessons:

the easy way
not the hard way.

Of course, the reason I say that is because – due to my stubbornness –

some of the most important lessons I’ve learned
You’ve had to let me learn the hard way.

Pray this Lazaroo in joyful expectation:

“…those brought as freewill offerings to the LORD.”
(Ezra 3:5)

I love this about You, Jesus…

You don’t tell us everything You want us to do.
You leave some of it totally up to us.

Unless I’m missing my guess…

what You most want from me
is what I want to give.

You could make me do everything You desire

but that would leave You feeling as empty
as it would me.

How much better when I give my gifts to You exuberantly

from my heart.

Pray this Lazaroo in quietness and trust::

“…so that he may be revealed at the proper time.”
(2 Thessalonians 2:6)

There’s always a proper time, isn’t there, Jesus?

But I seldom guess it correctly.

If it’s something pleasant, I tend to want it now.
If it’s something unpleasant, I tend to want it never.

But both have their place in my life.
You know exactly where…how…and when.

I trust You, LORD.

I’ve witnessed Your exquisite timing countless times.

Now, I pray…

give me the quiet patience
to back up those brave words of faith!

Pray this Lazaroo in sober assessment:

“Now let my Lord send his servants the wheat and barley and the olive oil and wine he promised…”
(2 Chronicles 2:15)

Well, here’s the thing about promises, Jesus…

people don’t always keep ‘em.

Nor do I.

I can’t answer for others, but I know why I’ve failed:

Sometimes I forgot.
Sometimes something out of my control arose.
Sometimes I promised something bigger than I could deliver.

And then there’s the worst reason of all:

I changed my mind.

No excuse for that one, LORD.

None.

Never again.

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful confirmation:

“You are witnesses…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:10)

I am, Jesus.

I’m a witness.

No, not a witness to the parting of the Red Sea.

Not a witness to the manna that fell out of the sky 6 days a week
feeding three million people.

Not a witness to the demons You cast out
the blind to whom You gave sight.

Not a witness to Your death, burial and resurrection 2,000 years ago.

But a witness to Your resurrection in my life.

Here.
Now.

Pray this Lazaroo in heartfelt gratitude:

“They ministered with music before the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting…”
(1 Chronicles 6:32)

The tabernacle and Tent of Meeting are long gone, Jesus

but Your people are still ministering with music in Your Presence
before Your grateful people.

Sometimes our instruments and voices are sweet, pure and strong

sometimes they’re a little out of tune and off-pitch.

But when my exuberant praise rises to You from a sincere heart
giving You the best I have to give

You love it as much as I love to give it.

Pray this Lazaroo with growing understanding:

“…he is the head of the body, the church…”
(Colossians 1:18)

You’re the head, Jesus.

I’m part of Your body
the Church.

I’m not the whole body
just a part.

But it’s a good reminder:

The head directs the body.
The body’s job is to obey the head.

When the body doesn’t obey what the head directs it to do, there’s a problem.

The head has to correct the body.

I’d prefer not to experience Your correction.

I think I’ll obey.
