Be flooded with gratitude, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Christ Jesus…our righteousness…”
(1 Corinthians 1:30)

You don’t merely help me be righteous, Jesus…

You Are my righteousness!

Becoming the person You’ve created me to be isn’t me trying harder

it’s me surrendering more.

It isn’t me faking it till I make it

it’s me humbly opening my flawed self totally to You.

It isn’t putting on a happy face and pretending everything’s fine

it happens on the inside – daily cultivating my 1on1 life with You.

You’re being Yourself in me.

My job is to cooperate.

Pray this Lazaroo in passionate expectation:

“…another generation grew up…”
(Judges 2:10)

It’s happening right now, Jesus…

as it has since the first woman on earth gave birth.

Here comes another generation!

Will they be an improvement over the ones before them?
Will they muddle through about like their predecessors?
Or will they head down wrong paths?

O God!

Help them learn from the mistakes of their ancestors!
Give them the humility to follow the holy examples set before them.
Empower them to scale new heights of

faith
hope
love.

Pray the words of this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts.”
(Romans 1:26)

I’ve gotta ask, Jesus…

Why do You do that?

Why give us over to shameful lusts?
Why not keep us from giving in to them?

It’s because we’re not robots, isn’t it?
You’ve given us a glorious/awful gift:

the freedom of choice.

So when we keep insisting we want something You tell us not to do

You let us have it

until we choke on it
until it burns us so badly

that in sincere, heartfelt repentance we turn back to You.

Pray this Lazaroo with courageous wisdom:

“Hide yourselves there…”
(Joshua 2:16)

Sometimes I need more than courage, don’t I, Jesus?

Sometimes I need to mix my courage
with wisdom.

At such times I don’t become less courageous.

I just insure that I will have more opportunities in the future
to exercise my courage.

So long as I’m proud, it’s hard to recognize when it’s time to hide

much easier to see when I’m humble

which usually comes shortly after that time my pride made me stay and fight

when I should’ve tucked tail and hid.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“Then Peter stood up with the Eleven…”
(Acts 2:14)

That had to be hard, Jesus. Even then.

Because they used to be called the Twelve.

Now one of them was gone – and it wasn’t pretty.

He hadn’t died a martyr, giving his life for You.
He died a traitor – selling You out

then hanging himself in remorse.

It’s easy to get discouraged and want to quit when a top leader is lost.

But Peter stood up.
That’s what I need to do.

Pray the words of this Lazaroo in confident assurance:

“…all the way…”
(Deuteronomy 1:31)

That’s how far I want to go, Jesus –

all the way.

It doesn’t matter how many miles I travel.

Length doesn’t count.

It doesn’t matter where my journey takes me

so long as You’re with me.

It doesn’t matter how many hardships I suffer along the way.

Greater are You in me
than the evil one who dogs my steps.

Only one thing counts:

That I fight the good fight
that I finish the course
that I keep the faith.

Pray this Lazaroo aloud, with fiery-eyed determination:

“I have seen…”
(John 1:34)

Yes, I have, Jesus.

You’ve shown me a lot.

The question is, what will I do with it?

I’m tempted to want to see more before I act.
Huh-uh.

People who insist You haven’t shown them enough

will still be waiting at the starting line
long after I break the tape

if I act
on what You’ve already shown me.

No, what You’ve shown me isn’t the whole journey

but it’s enough to get me started.

You’ll show me the rest

once I’m on my way.

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with pure devotion:

“They were responsible for the care of the…altars…”
(Numbers 3:31)

Is there a higher responsibility, Jesus?

Sure.
For those who’ve been given something else.

But not for those You’ve put in charge of the altars.
For them…it’s the big one.

Which brings up the question:

What’s my responsibility?

It may not be anything like anyone else’s.

Doesn’t matter.

It may be similar to a million others’.

Doesn’t matter.

All I have to know is that You’re the One who gave it to me.

That’s all that matters.

Pray this Lazaroo with growing confidence:

“…she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month.”
(Luke 1:36)

I love it when this happens, Jesus!

People try to hold me down, put limits on me
then You step in and prove them wrong.

You’ve provided me with many satisfactions in life, Father
but that’s one of the best. ;-)

There are no limits, are there?

Not with You.

So show me where I’m holding myself down
where I’m putting limits on what You can do through me.

   Little me
+ Big God.
Unbeatable

Be overwhelmed with gratitude, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“He is to put some of the blood on the horns of the altar…”
(Leviticus 4:18)

Teach me about these four golden horns, Jesus –

located at the corners of the altar of incense
in front of the curtain blocking the entrance to the holy of holies.

People accused of a capital crime would run to take hold of the horns of the altar

sometimes receiving mercy
sometimes not.

But at your death, the curtain was torn open!

So when I run to You for mercy

I brush past the horns
and go straight inside.
