Pray this Lazaroo in self-assessment:

“…to see if you would stand the test…”
(2 Corinthians 2:9)

Obviously, Jesus…

You knew if they would stand the test
You know everything before it happens.

But that may explain why I’m going through some things.

Maybe this is a test.

If so…how am I doing?

Well, I know the partial answer:

In some areas
I wasn’t exactly on my “A” game..

But overall, what’s my grade?

My salvation is secure
but my heavenly treasure is what’s at stake.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“At this, she bowed down with her face to the ground.”
(Ruth 2:10)

Not a bad response, Jesus

when once again
You show up in miraculous, life-changing power.

When I bow with my face to the ground

I’m acknowledging Your greatness
in contrast with my smallness.

I’m demonstrating how shocked I am

that You would love sinful, unworthy
inconsistent, falling-short me

this much!

I’m worshiping You with all my heart
declaring I’m unworthy to stand in Your Presence.

Pray this Lazaroo in mind-blown love:

“…God destined for our glory before time began.”
(1 Corinthians 2:7)

You’re talking about secret wisdom, Jesus –

a wisdom that had long been hidden.

I can’t begin to imagine the magnitude of that statement!

Before I was born…before anyone was born
before You created the heavens and earth

You knew me
loved me
chose me

laid specific, amazing plans for the days You’ve allotted to me

to walk this earth…

then explore the vast reaches of Your creation

forever!

Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“Unlike their fathers…”
(Judges 2:17)

That can be a bad thing, Jesus

…or something very good.

Of course, no one is exactly like their father

so that’s understood.

But fathers leave examples for us to follow…or reject.

If my father was an evil person
may I not repeat his sins!

But if my father was a good man
help me walk in his footsteps

while never forgetting that the only perfect example that is always safe to follow

is Yours.

Pray this Lazaroo in humbled dedication:

“They are…boastful…”
(Romans 1:29-30)

Boasting is hard to take, Jesus.

When somebody starts telling me how good they are
or goes on and on about what they’ve accomplished
or attempts to impress me with their important friends

I can hardly bear it.
I can’t wait for them to stop.

So why do I do it?

What makes me think others want to hear what I don’t?

Please forgive me!

I have no reason to boast about anything

but You.

Pray this Lazaroo in longing belief:

“Then the two men started back.”
(Joshua 2:23)

When it comes to vacations, Jesus

many people believe it’s more fun to leave
than to start back.

But as healthy as a break can be

a person who loves their work
is eager to resume.

A person who loves their home
is thankful to return.

Help me truly embrace the calling You’ve placed on my life!

while remembering that heaven –

not this world –

is my true home.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“Men of Israel, listen to this:”
(Acts 2:22)

Because of what You had just done, Jesus

You had their attention.

So Peter proceeded to seize the moment and tell them about You.

Sounds like a plan!

But how often have I been totally oblivious?

How many times have I failed to recognize my opportunity?

O God!

Please help me recognize very time
You’ve grabbed their attention.

Then help me seize that priceless moment
to tell them about You.

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful allegiance:

“…he will lead Israel to inherit it.”
(Deuteronomy 1:38)

That’s exactly what You enabled Joshua to do, Jesus!

He took over from Moses and led Your people
into the land You promised to give them.

Isn’t that what every leader is called to do?

To gratefully receive the baton from those who’ve led before
following You every step of the way

in order to lead Your people into the fullness
of Your promises?

O God!

Give us such leaders!

Pray this Lazaroo in deepest gratitude:

“Finding Philip, he said to him, ‘Follow me.’”
(John 1:43)

You deliberately left Galilee to find Phillip, Jesus

just like You deliberately chose, called and saved me.

There was nothing in my sinful human nature that would have chosen You

until You chose me.

Only then did I begin to grasp that You love me so much

that You went to the cross to pay for my sins

then rose from the dead

so we could be together

forever.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“Anyone else who approached the sanctuary was to be put to death.”
(Numbers 3:38)

I don’t pretend to know every reason behind that command, Jesus.

But I can guess one of them:

You wanted Your people to regard You
with knee-trembling awe.

It’s hard for us to leave our sinful ways.

We need all the incentive we can get!

That rule is no longer in effect.

The sanctuary is long gone.

But I will forever approach You

in reverent awe.
