Pray this Lazaroo in utter reliance on God:

“…be like…a young stag on the rugged hills.”
(Song of Songs 2:17)

This is truly intimate, sacred lovers’ language, Jesus!

But this kind of energy in the face of challenge
is exactly what I long for!

There’s no escaping it:

You lead me to rugged hills!

In Your wisdom and power

You call me to climb them, endure them, conquer them.

If I’m to succeed, I’m going to need a double helping

of Your spiritual version of young stag strength! 😉

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“…rid yourselves of all…envy…”
(1 Peter 2:1)

It’s the green-eyed monster, isn’t it, Jesus?

Wanting what somebody else has
until its acid eats away the “lining” of my spirit

robbing me of my joy
becoming an obsession
keeping me awake nights
turning me into something ugly and repulsive.

What’s the antidote?

Your contentment!

brought about by trusting in You
to supply everything I need

knowing You love me way too much
to withhold anything good that is truly best.

Pray this Lazaroo with Holy Spirit perspective:

“…a person…must leave all they own…”
(Ecclesiastes 2:21)

What a sobering reminder, Jesus!

I need to make a cool assessment of the things I’ve accumulated and face it:

None of it goes with me.

Naked I came into this world
Naked of even my flesh I depart.

You expect me to be a good steward of all You’ve placed in my care

without becoming attached to any of it.

Every possession I get to keep
awaits me in heaven.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“…if you show favoritism, you sin…”
(James 2:9)

We all have favorites, don’t we, Jesus?

a parent, child, grandchild
friend, coworker, church member.

Maybe we like the way they look or act

enjoy the gifts You’ve given them
connect with their more attractive personalities.

But when it comes to how I treat them

You demand that I be absolutely fair
treating them in accordance with what is right

or I will cease to be one of Your favorites!

Pray this Lazaroo in obedient belief:

“Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.”
(Proverbs 3:7-8)

When we achieve something, there’s an inherent danger, isn’t there, Jesus?

that we will think our own cleverness brought it about
instead of You.

May we be terrified by those evil thoughts –

instantly shutting them down.

Not only will we do what’s right spiritually…

but Your physical blessings will be ours!

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“Christ is faithful as a son over God’s house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.”
(Hebrews 3:6)

I love being part of Your house, Jesus!

I long to be one of Your favorite reasons to remain faithful

as I hold on to my courage
during the worst times

and as I keep boasting about You
even on those occasions when my faith
has not yet become sight.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep longing:

“Turn, O LORD, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love.”
(Psalms 6:4)

David is asking you to turn toward Him, Jesus –

as though You had looked away.

Of course, You hadn’t!

But sometimes when we’re in deep distress
it feels like it.

I know:

You never turn Your back on me.

You’re always right here, watching over me

sustaining me through every anguishing trial

using it to teach me
and make me strong.

Pray this Lazaroo in fascination:

“Epaphras, my fellow prisoner…”
(Philemon 1:23)

So, Jesus…

Does Epaphras gets mentioned in the Bible
solely because he was in jail with Paul?

No.

There was something special about this man.

He and Paul had made a connection.
Knowing Paul, he had probably led Epaphras to You.

In a sense, Paul led me to You, too –

because through Your words in him
he taught those who first told me about You.

There are worse things

than being imprisoned with the Apostle Paul!

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“…what I dreaded has happened to me.”
(Job 3:25)

They hang over all of us, Jesus –

these fears of what might happen.

You spare us from so many of them!

Hallelujah! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

But not from all.

Sometimes, what we most wanted to escape
grabs us around the neck in its cruel clutches.

The thing is…

You could have kept that from happening.

But You didn’t.

Because in deep, faithful love

You know best.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“…the older women…can train the younger women to love their…children…”
(Titus 2:3-4)

Most young moms have deep feelings of love for their children, Jesus

but that’s not the same as loving them
the way they need to be loved.

You’re the One who reveals when they need a hug

and when they need discipline

when they need encouragement
and when they need ultimatums

when they need their mothers to hold on tight
and when their mothers must let them go.
