Pray this Lazaroo with unbending passion:

“…found that the Lord had opened a door for me…”
(2 Corinthians 2:12)

An open door is a priceless thing, Jesus!

No matter how hard I try
how experienced I am
how much firepower I can muster
how much money I throw at it
how many people I have helping me

if You don’t open the door
I’ll never make it through.

But that’s fine.

Because I don’t want to walk through ANY door
that isn’t in the dead center of Your will.

Pray this Lazaroo from the grateful depths of your soul:

“May the LORD repay you for what you have done.”
(Ruth 2:12)

That statement is a double-edged sword, isn’t it, Jesus?

Boaz meant it as a blessing – and it was!
You did, in fact, repay Ruth’s beautiful spirit toward her mother-in-law.

But when I’ve sinned, that’s the last thing I want to hear!

I don’t want to be repaid for the wrong I’ve done.

I want forgiveness!

Let me rephrase that:

I need forgiveness!

And that’s what You purchased for me on the cross.

Pray this Lazaroo in humble awareness:

“…who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them?”
(1 Corinthians 2:11)

It upsets me, Jesus…

when somebody thinks they know what I’m thinking
or why I did what I did.

Most of the time, they’re wrong.

So why am I so quick to judge the motivations of others?

Am I judging them by what I would have done under their circumstances?

If so, then I’m judging myself.

Maybe if I stop sowing that seed

I’ll quit reaping it.

Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“But when the judge died, the people returned to ways even more corrupt than those of their fathers…”
(Judges 2:19)

It’s clear, Jesus.

Righteous leadership is essential!

Left to ourselves, we stray.

We don’t like to think of ourselves as sheep
but history proves it over and over again:

We need a shepherd.

You Are the Great Shepherd!

We are Your sheep, the precious people of Your flock.

But please, LORD:

Give us holy, pure, wise, faithful, Godly undershepherds.

Pray this Lazaroo in heartbroken concern:

“Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.”
(Romans 1:32)

It’s a scary thing to know what’s right, Jesus

and then not  do it…

to know what I shouldn’t do

and keep right on doing it.

It’s an even scarier thing to encourage others to follow my bad example.

O God! Don’t let me fall into that trap!

Pray this Lazaroo with an eager to obey heart:

“Joshua and all the Israelites…went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over.”
(Joshua 3:1)

There are many reasons to camp before crossing over, Jesus.

Some of them good.

Others…not so much.

Sometimes it’s being afraid of the crossing
or fear of what’s on the other side.

At other times it’s procrastination
or a preference for the known, over the unknown.

But may I never hesitate to cross any river in my path

to go where You send me!

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death…”
(Acts 2:24)

Everybody wants an easy death, Jesus.

I’m no exception.

In fact, I would prefer to have no death at all.

I’m holding out for the Rapture!

But so have countless others before me.

They kept their appointment with death.
I may well do the same.

But this is my confidence:

You will free me, too, from the agony of death
to live with You forever!

Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“…turn around and set out toward the desert…”
(Deuteronomy 1:40)

That was a hard instruction to hear, Jesus.

Your people had been headed toward the Promised Land.
But their spies convinced the majority they couldn’t succeed.

So You told them to do an about face
and head back into the desert.

I, too, have encountered a few of Your instructions that are hard to hear.

But O God! Hard or no –

may there be none I’m unwilling to obey.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep longing:

“When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”
(John 1:47)

When I approach You, Jesus

Is that what You see?
No deceit?

Oh, how I long for that to be true of me!

But it’s hard.
I so want people to like me.

Dare I let them know how flawed I am?

Ha! Who am I kidding?

Not only You – but they –

have a pretty good idea.

Pray this Lazaroo in stunned gratitude:

“…make a list of their names.”
(Numbers 3:40)

I love that about You, Jesus!

Our names matter to You.

My name matters to You!

Wow.

With so many to watch over and care for

with so many far more important than I

You know my name.

That gives me goose bumps.

I matter to You.
You truly love me.

You watch over me like I’m Your only sheep.

To You I’m not a number.
I’m Your close, dear, forever friend.
