Pray this Lazaroo in overflowing gratitude and love:

“He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.”
(Luke 1:54-55)

That’s who You are, Jesus!

Helper. Merciful. Promise-Keeper.

Just as You are doing for Abraham and his descendants

You are helping me every day of my life.
You are merciful to me beyond all comprehension.
You have kept every one of Your promises to me.

I praise You, LORD!

I give You all of me.
Forever.

Pray this Lazaroo in humbled gratitude:

“…he must bring as his offering for the sin he committed a female goat without defect.”
(Leviticus 4:28)

What about the person who had only one goat to supply milk for his baby, Jesus?

That would have brought home the seriousness of his sin, wouldn’t it?

Just as the thought that out of love for me
You gave Your only Son to pay for the sins I’ve committed

for which huge flocks of goats
could have never atoned.

Pray this Lazaroo with Holy Spirit wisdom:

“…carried by four of them.”
(Mark 2:3)

That man had some friends, Jesus!

Here he was, unable to walk, unable to get to You.

No problem.
His four friends picked him up
and made sure He got to You!

Do I have friends like that, Father?

Wrong question. Let me try again.

Am I a friend like that?

It doesn’t start with what others do for me, does it?
You hold me responsible for what I do for them.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“The elders of Israel will listen to you.
(Exodus 3:18)

That had to greatly encourage Moses, Jesus!

After all, he had been gone from Egypt 40 years.

When he left, he was fleeing for his life
having killed an Egyptian for beating a fellow Israelite.

Of course, when he showed up at the age of 80

no one would recognize him, no one would believe him

unless You made them.

Intervene in my life like that, Father!

Pray this Lazaroo in renewed determination:

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”
(Matthew 3:2)

Those words of John the Baptist resonate today, Jesus!

He was the one prophesied by Isaiah –

“A voice of one calling in the desert…”

He was the one prophesied by Malachi –

“I will send you the prophet Elijah…”

to prepare the people for Your coming.

You came! Preached! Healed! Died! Resurrected!

Shocked the world!

I’ve got to repent of every wrong thought, word and action.

You’re coming again.

Pray this Lazaroo in stark realization:

“Then the Lord God said to the woman, ‘What is this you have done?’”
(Genesis 3:13)

I know that feeling, Jesus –

I know it well –

the sick stomach that comes when You confront me
when the Holy Spirit removes the blinders
when I see exactly how much I have hurt You.

Because that’s the worst of it.

Not the guilt, though it’s terrible.
Not the consequences, which are either here or on the way.

But how I’ve betrayed You.

Pray this Lazaroo with excuseless humility:

“Judah has desecrated the sanctuary the LORD Loves…”
(Malachi 2:11)

Those last three words are what get to me, Jesus.

Of course, I should never desecrate Your sanctuary.

But when You remind me of how much You love Your sanctuary

that takes any sin against her
to a whole ‘nuther level.

My first thought goes to the physical church building where I worship with Your people.

Then I realize that my body is a temple for Your Holy Spirit.

Pray this Lazaroo in stunned gratitude:

“The LORD will…again choose…”
(Zechariah 2:12)

When I’ve done what I shouldn’t have, Jesus

sinning against You

when my sins have forced You to discipline me

bringing me pain, sorrow, suffering, excruciating regret

it can feel like You and I will never be close again
that I’ve forever lost the precious intimacy we had –

until, in repentance, I look up in happy, near disbelief

to realize You choose once again

to experience deep, daily, moment-by-moment

1on1 relationship with me.

Pray this Lazaroo in passionate gratitude:

“Until now…”
(Haggai 2:19)

The “until now” of the past tries to hold us captive, Jesus

But You came to change that.

In You –

what I used to be, used to do, the way I used to think –

are irrelevant.

My future is as bright as Your promises –

which are dazzlingly brilliant!

I’m no longer required to drive forward while looking in my rearview mirror.

In You, I can look ahead

and see unfolding before my eyes

new possibilities!

Pray this Lazaroo with growing understanding:

“…seek humility…
(Zephaniah 2:3)

Won’t have to seek long, Jesus.

If I’m genuinely looking for humility I’m gonna find it

in the blessings I don’t deserve

in the skills I don’t possess
to accomplish what I desire

in the sins I’ve committed
too many times to count

in the reality that I didn’t put myself here.
You created me, sustain me, own me.

So, yeah.

If I’m truly on the lookout for humility
it’ll hit me smack dab between the eyes.
