Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“When he is made aware of the sin he committed…”
(Leviticus 4:23)

It’s possible to break one of Your rules and not know it, Jesus…

sort of.

But because Your rules are there to help and protect me

down deep, I usually know:

Something’s amiss.

I’m at least vaguely aware I’ve crossed some sort of line
done something unwise, even potentially harmful.

So when a courageous person dares to point out my sin

in reality

I have no excuse.

Pray this Lazaroo with rock-solid determination:

“This is what you are to say to the Israelites…”
(Exodus 3:14)

What a responsibility that would be, Jesus –

to have You give me a message for Your people.

I’d be terrified not to give it!

Equally terrified to somehow get it wrong.

Sobering stuff…

because along with every one of Your followers
You have given me a message for Your people
straight from Your Word.

Please help me deliver it with piercing effectiveness

and get it 100% right.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“…refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”
(Matthew 2:18)

If someone I loved truly ceased to exist

I’d refuse to be comforted too, Jesus!

But there’s hope for everyone I love

who’s put their trust in You.

You’re the Giver of Eternal Life!

For now I may have to go without seeing them
but I know I’ll rejoin them in heaven.

With You, in You, through You, because of You

it’s never “Goodbye.”
It’s: “See you later.”

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“She also gave some to her husband, who was with her…”
(Genesis 3:6)

So much for Adam being the innocent party, Jesus.

The guy was right there, keeping his mouth shut

until he took a bite.

Talk about no excuse!

He knew better.
But he didn’t do better.

However…even as I shake my head in judgment

I know someone else who has pulled the same stunt
time and time and time again:

Moi.

Help me, dear God!

Please.

Stay focused as you pray this Lazaroo:

“But you have turned from the way…”
(Malachi 2:8)

Your way is the only road worth traveling, Jesus –

where joy arises
where growth occurs
where good takes place
where people are healed
where hope springs eternal
where amazing things happen
where bad people become good
where good people become great
where nobodies become somebody
where broken relationships are restored

Why would I ever turn from Your way?

There is not one good reason
In all this sick old world.

Seek true perspective, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“After he has honored me…”
(Zechariah 2:8)

That’s what comes first, isn’t it, Jesus?

Or at least it should.

First I honor You

then You honor me.

You’re first.

I’m last.

You’re the head.

I’m the tail.

You’re the top.

I’m the bottom.

But all too often I get it backwards.

I wait to thank and praise You
until I notice You’ve done something I like

shamefully overlooking the countless blessings with which You shower me

every single day.

Let your thoughts run deep, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“When anyone came to a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten.”
(Haggai 2:16)

That’s the definition of disappointment, Jesus:

Expect a lot
get a little

think I’m about to receive something nice
discover it’s not nearly as good as I thought

eagerly anticipate
only to have my hopes dashed.

In a very real sense

that’s life on earth
jinxed by sin.

But this one exception I’ve discovered:

When I reach for You
You surpass all my expectations.

Pray this Lazaroo in deepest respect:

“…the whole world will be consumed.”
(Zephaniah 1:18)

That sounds like the kind of overstatement I hear so often, Jesus.

But this time it isn’t.

This is You.

You don’t exaggerate.

Whatever You declare

You have the ability to bring to pass.

Over the years I’ve learned the hard way:

I have to take the pronouncements of so many people with a grain of salt.

But when You say You’ll do something – anything!

I’d better take it to heart.
