Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“How long must this go on?”
(Habakkuk 2:6)

Sometimes I’m stuck in what seems an intolerable situation, Jesus

which makes it feel like it will never end.

I cry out to You for relief, as though You don’t see and hear and feel.

But You do.

You don’t bring me to such places to hurt me.

You lovingly place me in them to teach me.

All I ask

is that You help me learn my lessons
really, really fast.

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“The LORD will restore the splendor of Jacob…though destroyers have laid them waste…”
(Nahum 2:13)

When I’ve been laid waste, Jesus

I’m tempted to think I’m done.

Without You perhaps that would be the case.

But with You, in You, through You, because of You –
I always have another chance.

And because of Your love, mercy and might

I’m not stuck with second-best!

You have a way of blessing me infinitely beyond

my highest prayers, desires, thoughts or hopes.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Do not prophesy about these things…”
(Micah 2:6)

Most people are eager to hear a prophecy, Jesus

if they believe it’s true
if the prophecy predicts punishment for their enemies
and/or a happy future for them.

Obviously, that’s not the kind of prophecy You entrusted to Your prophet Micah.

Of course, there are false prophets
who prophesy only what their audience wants to hear.

But among Your true followers

those who prophesy such lies
have a limited shelf life.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“But I…”
(Jonah 2:9)

Those two words can be the start of something amazing, Jesus!

They’re absolutely perfect
when Satan sets one of his traps.

False teachers may attempt to lead me in suspect paths

But I will hold fast to Your Word
turning neither to the right nor to the left.

When the way becomes hard, others may turn their backs on You

But I will take up my cross
and follow You every step of the way.

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“The LORD has spoken.”
(Obadiah 1:18)

That’s what’s said when You’ve handed down Your verdict, Jesus.

There’s a finality to it

as though The Judge’s gavel has fallen

reverberating throughout eternity.

When it’s worded like that

it’s usually bad news.

But You also speak amazing promises, LORD!

These, too, are good for all time.

Your promises to Your loving, obedient people

can never, ever be broken.

May every happy, faithful promise in Your book

be forever  mine.

Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit

“Does a lion roar in the thicket when he has no prey?”
(Amos 3:4)

I can’t imagine many things more terrifying, Jesus

especially when I’ve done wrong and know it.

You’ve warned me that Satan prowls around like a roaring lion

looking for someone to devour.

I don’t want to hear the roar of that lion, Father!

Not when I’m in a thicket.
Not when I’m its prey.

Not unless it’s the Lion of Judah

rescuing me when I pray.

Take heed, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They charge like warriors…”
(Joel 2:7)

Oh, Jesus.

Your warning about this army of locusts
about to descend upon Your people
is terrifying.

You don’t do things like this without fair warning.

You warn us over and over and over again.

In fact, Your kindness is sadly mistaken for unwillingness to act.

Your warnings come so far in advance
that we tragically suppose they will never arrive.

But if we fail to reverse course they will.

Dear God.
They will.

Pray this Lazaroo with bulldog faith:

“So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and about a homer and a lethek of barley.”
(Hosea 3:2)

What kind of man would buy a woman, Jesus?

One who did it because You told him to.

Why did she have to be bought?

Because she was a prostitute.

Why would you tell him to buy such a woman?

Because she was his wife

and having sold myself into sin
that’s what You had to do for me.
