Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“…Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.”
(Luke 1:41)

…which is what I long to be, Jesus!

…though it’s the last thing I deserve.

No matter how hard I try to clean up my act

I’m still a dirty vessel
so flawed, so prone to sin.

But if You waited for a perfect person

no one would ever be filled with the Spirit!

I’m not fit

but You’re the one who can fit the least likely
to Your purposes.

Keep your focus on God, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…burn it as he burned the first bull.”
(Leviticus 4:21)

Second time around is usually easier, Jesus.

Now I know what to do.
I’m less nervous because I’ve done it before.

If I paid attention the first time and evaluated my results
I might figure out how to do it better!

Of course, the second time has its trap, too.

I might think, “I’ve got this”

forgetting that I still need
the One who helped me the first time.

Pray this Lazaroo with wholehearted adoration:

“Jesus sent him away…”
(Mark 1:43)

Sounds ominous, Jesus…

but this was no rejection.

You had just delivered this man from leprosy!

Now healed, You were sending Him away
with an assignment.

Like him, You’ve forgiven the leprosy of my sin!
Now healed, You’ve sent me away with an assignment:

Tell everyone about You.

But being sent away isn’t as lonely and traumatic as it sounds.

You’ve promised to go with me
while You send me away.

Pray this Lazaroo with bolstered faith:

“Moses said to God, ‘Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them…’”
(Exodus 3:13)

He’s stalling, isn’t He, Jesus?

In the middle of the desert Moses hears Your voice.
It’s coming from a flaming bush that doesn’t burn up

– and that’s not enough for Him?

What – did You have to spell it out for him in writing?

Oh…wait a minute.

You’ve already done that for me, haven’t You?
I guess that leaves me with no excuse.

Pray this Lazaroo in sobered awe::

“…he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under…”
(Matthew 2:16)

No wonder You destroyed this man, Jesus!

He ordered the slaughter of innocents
in an attempt to keep Himself from being overthrown

by You.

To no avail.

When his time came, You took him down
in a manner befitting the ugliness of his evil soul.

As You will do to all evildoers

who fail to sincerely repent.

Pray this Lazaroo in purified priority:

“When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food…”
(Genesis 3:6)

Not everything that’s good for food

is good for my spirit, is it, Jesus?

Why is it that I’d sometimes rather sit down to a good meal on my plate

than a feast in Your Word?

You told Your disciples that Your food

was to do the will of Him Who sent You
and to finish His work.

If that’s Your food

it’s mine.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“He walked with me in…uprightness…”
(Malachi 2:6)

“Uprightness.”

Interesting word, Jesus.

That’s how you want me to walk in my spirit, isn’t it?

Not bent over, as an animal.
Upright, as one made in Your Image.

But even when I’m hobbling in my spirit, bent over in pain

You’re there for me!

Even when I’m spiritually bedfast and can’t walk at all

You never give up on me
You stay beside me

bringing the healing no one else can.

Pray this Lazaroo in steely commitment:

“Escape, you who live in the Daughter of Babylon!”
(Zechariah 2:7)

That pretty much says it, Jesus.

The Daughter of Babylon is where I live.

I hear You:

“Escape!”

But how am I going to do that?

Sure, I can leave this country…
but where am I going to go?

There’s not a nation on earth

that isn’t acting like a Daughter of Babylon.

When I escape, it won’t be with my feet

but with my head and my heart.
