Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“I wrote you out of…anguish of heart…”
(2 Corinthians 2:4)

Not everyone knows what “anguish of heart” is, Jesus

though in time, perhaps most of us will.

Interestingly, Paul’s anguish of heart had nothing to do with

his health
his finances
a failed romantic relationship.

His heart was breaking because the Christians in this city had compromised Your holy standards.

Would my heart break over something like that?

If so…
I would be in anguish of heart
right now.

Pray this Lazaroo with Holy Spirit sensitivity:

“Whose young woman is that?”
(Ruth 2:5)

It would be hard to askĀ a more politically incorrect question, Jesus.

Thankfully, we don’t talk that way anymore.

But there’s a lesson here, isn’t there?

For the time in which he lived, Boaz wasn’t speaking disrespectfully.
Just the opposite – he greatly respected Ruth!

How many times have I unfairly judged someone’s words or actions

without knowledge of their background, culture or intent?

Forgive me, LORD!
Only You know the heart.

Pray this Lazaroo in obedient gratitude:

“I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”
(1 Corinthians 2:2)

No doubt Paul was weary of the controversies religious people are able to go on and on and on about, Jesus!

Only one thing matters:
You.

Because of who You are –

though we don’t deserve it –

we get to live forever in heaven

if we place our faith in You alone

in what You did for us on the cross
and in Your resurrection.

Tremble in fear as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They provoked the LORD to anger…”
(Judges 2:12)

You’re slow to anger, Jesus.

It takes a lot to get You steamed.

If that wasn’t so, I’d be dead

along with the entire human race.

We’re all sinners.
Every last one of us.

But though You’re slow to anger

You eventually get there.

There’s a line I’d better not cross.

I don’t see it.
I have no idea how far ahead of me it lies.

Best response?
Turn around.

Now.

Be on your guard, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They have become filled with every kind of wickedness…”
(Romans 1:29)

It’s hard to imagine that people like this actually exist, Jesus

until I run into one of them.

At first, I can’t believe it.
I keep thinking I’m overreacting.

But the longer it goes
the more it’s confirmed.

Once my eyes are opened, I do my best to warn others

to no avail.
They can’t believe it either.

O God!

Deliver them and me
from those evil clutches.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“If any of them go outside your house into the street, their blood will be on their own heads…”
(Joshua 2:19)

That’s pretty much the way it is for me too, isn’t it, Jesus?

I can stay in You

in Your house
in Your Word
in Your Presence
in obedience to You

or I can decide there’s something better than You out there
and hit the streets.

If I do that
my blood will be on my own head.

Pray this Lazaroo in reasonable trust:

“These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning!”
(Acts 2:15)

Peter’s absolutely right, Jesus

Most people aren’t drunk at that hour.

Even so, it’s technically possible –

which is a favorite excuse of those who refuse to believe.

When You heal someone’s disease, they attribute it to natural causes.
When You reconcileĀ a marriage, they praise the counselor.
When evidence mounts that You created us

they suggest life on earth was seeded by aliens.

Pray this Lazaroo in steadfast faith:

“…the LORD your God, who went ahead of you on your journey…to show you the way you should go.”
(Deuteronomy 1:32-33)

Wow.

This simplifies my life, Jesus!

In the past, I’ve tried to guess what lies ahead.

I’ve done research
leaned on my own experience
tapped into the expertise of others.

Results?

Mixed.

Win some…lose some.

A dart board might have been as effective.

But You go ahead of me!

All I have to do
is follow You.

Pray this Lazaroo in bottomless trust:

“…Jesus saw them following and asked, ‘What do you want?’”
(John 1:38)

Is it possible that You’re asking that of me, Jesus?

You see me following You…
do You want me to tell You what I want?

Without question, You have the power to give me anything and everything I could imagine.

But the more I think of it
the easier it becomes to answer that question:

Because what I really want
is whatever You want to give me.

Pray this Lazaroo with unshakable belief:

“The leader of the families of the Merarite clans was Zuriel son of Abihail…”
(Numbers 3:35)

Out of three-quarters of a million words in the Bible, Jesus

this is the only time Zuriel’s name is mentioned.

Once upon a time he was a key leader.

And then his time was through.
Someone else led the Merarite clans.

While it was his turn, did he lead them well?

We don’t know.
But You do.

And that

is all that matters.
