Pray this Lazaroo in passionate gratitude:

“…what does the one God seek? Godly offspring. So be on your guard…”
(Malachi 2:15)

I’m not going to be able to give You the Godly offspring You desire me to be, Jesus

if I don’t stay on my guard.

Satan – the sworn enemy of my soul –

waits for me to drop my guard

even for the briefest of moments

and then swoops in to do incalculable harm.

Please! I beg You!

Help me

Stay. On. My. Guard!

Pray this Lazaroo with growing understanding:

“Listen, High Priest Joshua, you and your associates seated before you, who are men symbolic of things to come: I am going to bring my servant, the Branch.”
(Zechariah 3:8)

You, Jesus:

The Branch.
The promised Messiah –

the long-awaited one – the only one –
who could deliver us from our sins.

But You came as You almost always do –

in a way and time we could not have imagined
to pay for our sins with Your own life

in a way we could not have imagined.

Pray this Lazaroo in the fear of God:

“I will overturn royal thrones and shatter the power of the foreign kingdoms. I will overthrow chariots and their drivers; horses and their riders will fall, each by the sword of his brother.”
(Haggai 2:22)

When You punish my enemies who are attacking me, Jesus

You do so with devastating power!

Not only that – I don’t have to defend myself.

You’re Able to turn them against one another!

Please help me remember that

next time I’m tempted to retaliate.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The land by the sea will become pastures having wells for shepherds and pens for flocks.”
(Zephaniah 2:6)

This is how You punished Your disobedient nation, Jesus!

Wow.

You could have scorched the land, making it utterly useless for anything.

But You didn’t.
Instead, in the midst of Your disciplining anger

You turned the land they had defiled
into a blessing.

You’ve done that time and again for me!

Even while You’re correcting me
You’re blessing me in ways I would have never expected.

O God!
You Are Awesome!

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“You will be filled with shame instead of glory.”
(Habakkuk 2:16)

No!

That can’t happen, Jesus.
Not if I have anything to say about it.

Well…even more importantly:
Not if I have anything I can do about it.

And I can!

I can repent of my sins and stop committing them –
especially those I’ve been guilty of, again and again.

I can obey You – instantly – when I see in Your Word
what You want me to do.

Glory!

Not shame.

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“‘I am against you,’ declares the Lord Almighty.”
(Nahum 2:13)

Could there be any more chilling words, Jesus?

In this or any language.

First of all, I can’t make it without You.

Try though I might, I’m not enough.

But if You would also be against me?

Then I’d be doomed.
No one can successfully stand against You.

However…

You’re not against me!

I’ve completely, wholeheartedly, irrevocably
given myself to You.

I’m Yours.
Your mine.

HALLELUJAH!

You’re for me!

Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit:

“But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the Lord, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, to Israel his sin.”
(Micah 3:8)

It’s possible, Jesus!

That while all around me are weak, timid and afraid
You would choose to make me bold and strong.

That was true of Your prophet Micah

because He was obeying You
with every fiber of his being.

Weak or strong, bold or timid
may I do the same.

Take it to heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Do not let people or animals, herds or flocks, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink.”
(Jonah 3:7)

Why would the king of Ninevah issue such a harsh decree, Jesus?

It was because of Jonah’s preaching, wasn’t it?

After You forced him to show up in that wicked city
You declared You were about to destroy them.

The king took You at Your Word and went all out to change your mind.

How seriously do I take Your warnings?

Pray this Lazaroo with responsive faith:

“We have heard a message from the Lord: An envoy was sent to the nations to say, ‘Rise…’”
(Obadiah 1:1)

No more sitting down, Jesus!

Sure, there’s a time to kick back and relax

But there comes a day when that time ends

when it’s time to get back to work.

Not my work.
Yours.

Which time am I in, Holy Spirit?

Show me!

I don’t want to be standing when You’ve told me to sit
nor sitting when You’ve told me to “Rise!”

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“‘Many times I struck your gardens and vineyards, destroying them with blight and mildew. Locusts devoured your fig and olive trees, yet you have not returned to me,’ declares the Lord.”
(Amos 4:9)

When our hearts are stubborn and unrepentant, Jesus

this is what it comes to.

Because Your loving kindness doesn’t compel us

all that’s left is pain.

O God!

May I respond to Your love
Your generosity to me
Your goodness, mercy and forgiveness!

May I never bring upon myself

Your wrath.
