Pray this Lazaroo in faith-filled confidence:

“I will overthrow chariots…”
(Haggai 2:22)

This was no small thing, Jesus.

Armies on foot would melt in fear
when confronted by an army with chariots.

It took an enormous amount of faith in You

for a soldier on foot to stand his ground
when a horse-drawn chariot was bearing down on him.

What are the chariots I’m facing this year, LORD?

Please increase my faith to reflect Who You Really Are

so that come what may
I’ll stand my ground!

Pray this Lazaroo, overwhelmed with gratitude:

“…the word of the Lord is against you, Canaan, land of the Philistines. He says, ‘I will destroy you, and none will be left.’”
(Zephaniah 2:5)

It’s one thing to be defeated in battle, Jesus

to be shamed and disgraced
taken captive, reduced to slavery.

But this time it was worse.

The Philistines so infuriated You with their blatant idolatry
that You threatened to annihilate them

leaving no survivors.

That’s what my sins deserve.

But instead of wrath –

through the cross –

You’ve offered me mercy!

Pray this Lazaroo with bated breath:

“…the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord…”
(Habakkuk 2:14)

Oh, what a day that will be, Jesus!

I can’t wait.

Literally, I can’t wait –

meaning, I dare not wait.

You’ve given me the task of sharing Your good news

with everyone around me.

I’m not responsible for what they do with it

but You hold me accountable
to do everything in my power
to make sure they hear about You
in as clear and compelling a way as possible.

Pray this Lazaroo in 2022 determination:

“Where now is the lions’ den, the place where they fed their young…”
(Nahum 2:11)

The place where we feed our young

is sacred, Jesus.

But there’s more than one way to feed our little ones.

Physical food is important
but not nearly as important as spiritual food.

The place where the next generation learns about You

can either make them
or ruin them.

It’s my job to be certain

that what they’re taught
brings them into deep, daily, moment-by-moment
1on1 relationship with You.

Pray this Lazaroo with growing understanding:

“This is what the Lord says: ‘As for the prophets who lead my people astray, if one feeds them, they proclaim “peace”…’”
(Micah 3:5)

False prophecy is disgusting, Jesus.

Lying to the people who feed them
pandering to them, reassuring them

in spite of the fact
that they were sent by You
to warn them.

Question:

Do I ever tell people what they want to hear

instead of what they need to hear

because I want them to like me?

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust.”
(Jonah 3:6)

Three things revealed how seriously the king took Your warning, Jesus:

He took off his royal robes, thus stripping himself of his position.
In humility, he covered himself with sackcloth.

And then to top it all off

he sat down in the dust, like a dog.

May I heed Your warnings

with no less clarity!

Happy New Year! Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“We have heard a message from the Lord…”
(Obadiah 1:1)

Oh, we’ve heard Your message, Jesus

and that’s good.

But the question is:

What have we done with what we’ve heard?

We are without excuse:

The evidence about Your Majesty and Power is everywhere.

Just like seeing the awesome things You do

hearing Your Word

should be believing.

But the majority of people ignore what they see and hear

and listen instead to Satan’s lies.

Not me, this year, LORD!

Not me.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“‘Go to Bethel and sin; go to Gilgal and sin yet more. Bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes every three years. Burn leavened bread as a thank offering and brag about your freewill offerings—boast about them, you Israelites, for this is what you love to do,’ declares the Sovereign Lord.”
(Amos 4:4-5)

On the cusp of this New Year, Jesus

I’ve got to remember it’s not enough to jump through the hoops.

For You…

it’s all about my heart.

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

Who knows? He may turn and relent…”
(Joel 2:14)

You Are Just, Jesus!

Your righteousness demands it.

You hate sin.
Sin has a penalty.

You’ve dished out that penalty countless times.

If You were only Just, though – who could stand?

We’ve all sinned
fallen short of Your glory.

But praise Your Holy Name, You’re also Merciful.

Again and again, You’ve treated us all
better than we deserve.

In behalf of those who themselves are merciful You declare:

Your tender Mercy
triumphs over judgment.

Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit:

“…old wine and new wine take away their understanding. My people consult a wooden idol, and a diviner’s rod speaks to them. A spirit of prostitution leads them astray; they are unfaithful to their God. They sacrifice on the mountaintops and burn offerings on the hills, under oak, poplar and terebinth, where the shade is pleasant.”
(Hosea 4:11-13)

Addiction…spiritual cluelessness…idol worship…prostitution…unfaithfulness.

O, Jesus!

These are the sins still plaguing us today.

Deliver us, Mighty God!
Deliver us!
