Pray this Lazaroo with excuseless humility:

“Escape…”
(Zechariah 2:7)

Sounds, good, Jesus.

There are some things I’m determined to escape:

error
ignorance
meaningless pain
disgrace
lack of focus
foolishness – mine and others’
inefficiency
wasted time
irrelevance
disobedience
unforgiveness
weakness
every attack of Satan

hell

Pray this Lazaroo in holy fear:

“…whatever they offer…is defiled.”
(Haggai 2:14)

So much for trying to buy You off, Jesus.

Gifts given to You are great
instantly becoming eternal heavenly treasure

when given in sincerity of heart
when given by people who trust You completely
when given by those who obey You wholeheartedly.

But when given as a show, as leverage for selfish gain

to placate You for deliberate, continuing, unrepentant sin
by those whose faith is mere pretense

whatever they offer is defiled.

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful astonishment:

“Their blood will be poured out…”
(Zephaniah 1:17)

How different, Jesus!

When the blood of mere human beings is poured out

they die.

When Your blood was poured out

You died

then three days later

rose from the grave.

Fully man, You bled, grew hungry, became tired.

Fully God, You healed the sick

raised the dead
walked on water
halted storms.

Your innocent blood poured out on the cross

proven infinitely powerful
to save the sinful likes of me.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“…he…takes captive all the peoples.”
(Habakkuk 2:5)

I have no interest in being an evil person’s captive, Jesus.

I detest the very thought.
Freedom is precious to me.

Not freedom from You, though!

Rather, freedom to become everything You’ve created me to be.
Every other pursuit is jail, captivity, bondage.

Of course, that’s not how the tempter presents it.

The bars of his cage are cleverly disguised
the rusty padlock hidden from sight
his key to open it

nonexistent.

Pray this Lazaroo with laser focus:

“…watch the road…”
(Nahum 2:1)

It’s easy to get distracted on my journey, Jesus

I’m tempted to look for ways to entertain myself
when it appears not much is happening

paying too much attention
to things that don’t matter.

But only one thing is essential:

to discover why You’ve put me on this highway
and to arrive at my destination
on time.

To do that…

I’ve got to watch the road.

Thank You for the reminder, Father.

I will.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…my people’s possession is divided up.”
(Micah 2:4)

This can be one of life’s saddest moments, Jesus

when someone dies
and the treasures they have accumulated over the years

are divided up by heirs
or auctioned off to strangers.

But although people may rummage through my earthly possessions

I will leave nothing of true value behind.

My eternal treasure is laid up with You

where moths and vermin do not destroy
and thieves do not break in and steal.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“When my life was ebbing away…”
(Jonah 2:7)

How will I feel when that happens, Jesus?

I’m not talking about close calls
overactive imagination
near-death experiences.

I’m asking about the final moments

before my actual death.

I absolutely do not want to know what the unbeliever experiences

not even vicariously.

By faith, I’m trusting Your promise:

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.”

May those moments be precious for me, as well.
