Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit:

“Outside, the sword bereaves…”
(Lamentations 1:20)

It’s scary out there, Jesus!

The moment I step outside the door of my home
anything can happen.

Accidents on the paths I walk…on the roads I drive.

There are poisonous bugs, vicious animals
new, deadly diseases for which there is no cure.

But that’s not even the worst of it!

There are really bad people out there
looking for someone to attack.

The only reason I dare to venture out

is You.

Open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…just as the Father commanded us.”
(2 John 1:4)

Not the opposite of what the Father commanded me, Jesus.

Not approximately

but just as I’ve been commanded by my heavenly Father.

Nothing less will do.

The problem arises, of course

when I discover through repeated trial and error
that I’m not that good.

I can’t pull it off.

That doesn’t mean I stop trying…

but it leaves me hopelessly head-over heels in debt
to Your loving, boundless mercy.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…even denying the sovereign Lord…”
(2 Peter 2:1)

How can they do that, Jesus?

They’d have to be blind not to recognize You!

Well, yeah.

That’s exactly what they are.

But not just spiritually blind –

also physically, mentally and emotionally –
blind as bats.

Actually, that’s an insult to bats.
They’re blinder.

It’s that word, “sovereign” that gets them, isn’t it?

Says You’re the Boss.

And of course, You Are

which leaves them no alternative
but to squeeze shut their eyes.

Sell out totally to God as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…let me hear your voice…”
(Song of Songs 2:14)

Some people think this book of the Bible is merely a lover’s poem, Jesus.

But a lot of scholars think it’s something deeper.

They think it gives a glimpse into the kind of

Deep, Daily, Moment-by-Moment, 1on1 relationship
You long for us to experience with You.

If so, then You’re the Lover…and I’m the beloved.

You’re telling me You want to hear my voice

often!

sharing my deepest thoughts with You.

Pray this Lazaroo with Holy Spirit passion:

“…love one another deeply, from the heart.”
(1 Peter 1:22)

This ain’t ordinary “luv,” is it, Jesus?

It’s not like, “I love mom’s potato salad”
“I love action movies and romantic comedies”
“I love the UK Wildcats…the Colts…Golden State Warriors…the Indiana Hoosiers”

It’s the love You showed me when You died on the cross for my sins

a love that will lay down my life for my friends

and for total strangers!
who don’t yet know You as Savior.

Pray this Lazaroo in wholehearted dedication:

“Like the fool, the wise too must die!”
(Ecclesiastes 2:16)

Solomon’s right, Jesus.

But the death of the fool who says You don’t exist
is radically different from the death of the wise person

who knows You do –
and trusts You as Savior!

In fact, it’s the wise person who is most aware that death is coming.

Fools do their best to ignore their mortality
living each day for themselves, rather than for You.

Big…big…BIG mistake.

Pray this Lazaroo with caution:

“Sit on the floor by my feet.”
(James 2:3)

I might tell a child to do that, Jesus…

but I’d never treat another adult that way.

Not literally.

However, I’m not sure that excuses me from applying this passage to my life!

When have I ever looked at someone else’s situation
and advised them to settle for something less than I have?

In that case, I’m saying to them what James tells me not to, aren’t I?

Wow.
Ouch.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“…the unfaithful will be torn from it.”
(Proverbs 2:22)

Torn from what, Jesus?

Well, specifically, the land they live on.

But that could have broader meaning, couldn’t it?

Not everyone is a landowner.

But we all have something or someone that represents home to us.

That’s what the unfaithful will be torn from, isn’t it?
the very thing that means the most to them.

I need to stop applying this to other people, don’t I?

Help me be faithful!

Pray this Lazaroo with humility:

“…who share in the heavenly calling…”
(Hebrews 3:1)

I’m not the only one going to heaven, Jesus.

Now, of course, I know that.

But I don’t always act like it.

Sometimes I look down on others.

I know.
You repeatedly warn me not to.

When I catch myself committing that inexcusable sin

I’m horrified.

Who do I think I am?

I get distracted by the sins they’re committing
the foolish things they’re doing

and forget that I’ve done far worse.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“Let their intrigues be their downfall.”
(Psalms 5:10)

So fitting, Jesus!

to witness people who plot against others –

especially when it’s against those who trusted them –

finally be taken down in their own trap!

But somehow, when it happens…

I can’t rejoice.

I’m no better than they.

I deserve the same punishment.

My sins may not be identical to theirs

but they are every bit as heinous.

Forgive them, LORD!

as You have so completely, graciously, undeservedly

forgiven me.
