Pray this Lazaroo in wholehearted acceptance:

“…it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.”
(1 Peter 2:15-17)

You know how hard it is to obey those last three words, Jesus!

Especially when I despise their words and actions.

But You have Your reasons.

Bottom line?
That’s good enough for me.

Pray this Lazaroo with excuseless humility:

“The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you. Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?”
(Zechariah 4:9-10)

Open my eyes, Jesus!

When You do it
I don’t want to miss it!

Pray this Lazaroo in total honesty:

“When I think my bed will comfort me…even then you frighten me with dreams and terrify me with visions, so that I prefer strangling and death, rather than this body of mine. I despise my life; I would not live forever. Let me alone; my days have no meaning.”
(Job 7:13-16)

Why did you let Job speak to You like that, Jesus?

Because You knew how hard He had tried to please you

and how stunned he was
that You hadn’t protected him.

Help me remember why You did that

and how it ended.

Be humbly forewarned, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, they are not afraid to heap abuse on celestial beings; yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not heap abuse on such beings when bringing judgment on them from the Lord.”
(2 Peter 2:10-11)

What a lesson, Jesus!

Even though You command me to resist the demonic work
of those powerful angels who followed Satan

because You created them
I’m to treat them with respect

as I do my earth-bound enemies.

Pray this Lazaroo in the fear of God:

“Every one of you that I do not cut off from serving at my altar I will spare only to destroy your sight and sap your strength, and all your descendants will die in the prime of life. And what happens to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, will be a sign to you—they will both die on the same day.”
(1 Samuel 2:33-34)

You’re longsuffering, Jesus.

For such a very long time You refrain from punishing.

But when we despise Your patience as weakness…

oh, dear God!

Pray this Lazaroo with growing understanding:

“Hear this, you leaders of Jacob, you rulers of Israel, who despise justice and distort all that is right…because of you, Zion will be plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a heap of rubble, the temple hill a mound overgrown with thickets.”
(Micah 3:9,12)

Your gift and call to be a leader is a staggering responsibility Jesus.

It gives to a human being the ability to sway others

for right
or for wrong

and then to face the consequences.

Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“…those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, they are not afraid…”
(2 Peter 2:10)

Lack of fear can be a good thing, Jesus…

but not in this case.

Fear of doing wrong, knowing full well You’re watching

is the beginning of wisdom.

Most of us don’t have that fear nearly enough.

For some, it’s a lack of belief.

But for others of us
it’s knowing how much You love us!

Pray this Lazaroo in sobered reflection:

“…the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that members of your family would minister before me forever.’ But now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained.’”
(1 Samuel 2:30)

So much for the name-it-and-claim-it crowd, Jesus.

I can’t stand on every promise You’ve ever made
if I’m not standing faithfully with You.

May I honor you, my Savior

with everything I think, say and do!

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Hear this, you leaders of Jacob, you rulers of Israel, who despise justice and distort all that is right; who build Zion with bloodshed, and Jerusalem with wickedness.”
(Micah 3:9-10)

It’s the leaders You hold most accountable, isn’t it, Jesus?

You expect them to set the standard for their followers

to love justice and do what’s right
But with honesty, integrity and hard work –

not by crushing the innocent.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“…the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh and despise authority.”
(2 Peter 2:9-10)

There are times and circumstances, Jesus

when none of us likes being told what to do.

And of course, there are evil people in authority

whose sinful commands must be disobeyed.

But may I always be wholeheartedly responsive

to the commands of Your Word!
