Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“Daughters of Jerusalem, come out, and look, you daughters of Zion. Look on King Solomon wearing a crown, the crown with which his mother crowned him on the day of his wedding, the day his heart rejoiced.”
(Song of Songs 3:10-11)

Is she referring to Solomon’s first wedding, Jesus?

Because in disobedience to You
he took many wives – 700 in all.

Many of them were idol worshipers, who in time turned his heart from You.

Remind me, Jesus!
More…isn’t always best.

Pray this Lazaroo in deep sorrow:

“See now, the Lord, the Lord Almighty, is about to take from Jerusalem and Judah both supply and support: all supplies of food and all supplies of water, the hero and the warrior, the judge and the prophet, the diviner and the elder, the captain of fifty and the man of rank, the counselor, skilled craftsman and clever enchanter.”
(Isaiah 3:1-3)

If You’ll do this to punish Your chosen people’s disobedience, Jesus

what will You do to my disobedient country?

Keep first things first, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Another thing you do…”
(Malachi 2:13)

Just when I think I’m getting away scot-free with my disobedience, Jesus

I’m reminded that You see everything I do
hear everything I say
know everything I think.

When I repent, do You refuse to remember my sins?

Yes. You do.

HALLELUJAH!

You remove my inexcusably wicked acts
as far away from me as the east is from the west!

But the operative phrase is:

“When I repent.”

Which I’d better do.

Right now.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands.”
(2 John 1:6)

We’re not to obey everything, are we, Jesus?

Obedience – all by itself – is not the goal.

There are countless people issuing orders in my direction –

presidents, governors, mayors, bosses, doctors, experts, friends, family.

When should I obey them?

When their orders are in harmony with Your commands.

When should I wisely but staunchly disobey them?

When doing so would require me to disobey You.

Pray this Lazaroo in Holy Fear:

“…you said, ‘I will not serve you!’”
(Jeremiah 2:20)

What a foolhardy, terrifying declaration, Jesus.
Most of us aren’t that blatant with our defiance.

We give you lip service that makes us sound righteous
until our disobedient actions reveal our words to be lies.

That’s not my intent, LORD!

I know I’ve overpromised and underperformed.
But every time I promise You something I mean it.

Please help me overcome my weakness!
I so long to obey You.
Every time.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture…”
(James 2:8)

It’s possible to have one of Your laws in my theology, Jesus

without having it in my life.

How can I say I believe what You say

if I don’t do what You say?

It’s a lie, isn’t it?
If I truly believe it, I’ll do it.

Saying I believe without action
is self-deluded disobedience.

Please show me:

Where am I giving mere lip service to Your Word?

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“They displease God…”
             (1 Thessalonians 2:15)

How dare I, Jesus?

Unthinkable. Inexcusable. Indefensible.

But I have.

Dear God, I have displeased You –
more times than I can count.

That wasn’t my aim.

All I was doing…was what I wanted to do.

The reason I said what I did…
was that’s what I felt like saying.

I just wasn’t thinking.

No…that’s not quite right.
I was thinking, all right – about myself.

But not about You.

I’m truly sorry.

That changes.
Today.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“Who told you that you were naked?”
(Genesis 3:11)

It wasn’t You, was it, Jesus?

It was listening to Satan and eating the forbidden fruit
that caused Adam and Eve to feel naked.

Of course, nothing about their appearance had changed.

They weren’t wearing clothes before their disobedience.

But here’s the thing:

Until they sinned, being unclothed didn’t bother them.
It was sin against You that brought shame.

As always.

Only in You

is my shame taken away.

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“You drive the women of my people from their pleasant homes.”
(Micah 2:9)

You love the women You’ve created, Jesus –

especially those descended from Abraham.

But when they sin again and again –

rejecting You, following other gods –

they’ll pay for their disobedience
and their detestable idolatry.

Though You’ve blessed me time after time beyond measure

If I reject You and put other things and people before You
You’ll do the same to me

because You discipline those You love.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“…he was afraid to go there.”
(Matthew 2:22)

You haven’t given me a spirit of fear, Jesus –

but a spirit of power, love, self-discipline.

There’s no place You send me

that I need fear.

But there are places You forbid me to go.

I’d blessed well better be scared to go there!

How can I expect You to protect me

when I blatantly disobey?

Lead me in Your way everlasting, Father!

And keep my britches
out of the ditches.
