Pray this Lazaroo in stunned realization:

“…they have rebelled against you.”
(Psalms 5:10)

Some people rebel against You defiantly and openly, Jesus.

Others do so while outwardly professing their faith in You.

If all sin is a form of rebellion then I shamefully confess:

I’ve rebelled against You.

No, I’ve not rejected You as my Savior

but every time I do what I know I shouldn’t
I’ve rebelled against You as my LORD.

How dare I – Your soldier in Heaven’s army –

disobey my Commanding Officer?

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The foundation Solomon laid for building the temple of God was sixty cubits long and twenty cubits wide…”
(2 Chronicles 3:3)

There’s never been another temple like it, Jesus –

but that makes me think:

What kind of foundation am I building?

Solomon did a great job laying the foundation for Your physical temple

but his spiritual foundation didn’t hold.

It all started when he disobeyed you in seemingly small ways

first this…then that.

But there’s nothing small about disobedience.

Pray this Lazaroo in lesson-learning horror:

“Why then has he become plunder?”
(Jeremiah 2:14)

Before I try to answer that question, Jesus

I need to ponder what it is to be plunder.

It’s what raiders get when they destroy a city

looting whatever’s left after killing all its inhabitants
having burned it to the ground.

I don’t want to be my enemies’ stolen goods, Father!

To avoid that, it’s essential that I obey You.

I long to remain Your child, Your treasured possession

now…and forever.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs.”
(Jonah 2:8)

Well, that’s just not an option for me, Jesus.

I need Your grace!

I don’t want what I deserve.

I know what I’ve “earned”
with my sin, shortcomings, rebellion, disobedience.

I’m doing my best to turn it around.
I’m giving it all I’ve got.

But what I’ve got
isn’t enough.

I still – inexcusably – mess up.

Which is why I so desperately
need Your grace.

Take warning as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…every face turns pale.”
(Joel 2:6)

Some faces turn pale over the smallest thing, Jesus.

But when every face turns pale
we’re talking about something truly terrifying.

You are so kind, so loving – even longsuffering.

It takes repeated, calloused, uncaring disobedience
to force You into doling out this kind of punishment
on the people You love with all Your heart.

But that’s what love does

when nothing else works

when the one You deeply cherish

no longer pays attention.

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was…desirable for gaining wisdom…”
(Genesis 3:6)

Most of us want to know more than we do, Jesus

at least about some things.

But that’s not what Satan was marketing to Eve.

He claimed that all she had to do was disobey God
to become wiser.

And she did.

Shortly after she and her husband were expelled from the garden
she learned that she’d have been wiser

to disobey Satan.
