Pray this Lazaroo in thoughtful recognition:

“Go back to your field…You deserve to die, but I will not put you to death now, because you carried the ark of the Sovereign Lord before my father David and shared all my father’s hardships.”
(1 Kings 2:26)

I love Solomon’s decision, Jesus!

For attempting to overthrow King Solomon
Abiathar deserved to die.

But Solomon spared his life
out of respect for his past service to his father

It’s not about this moment alone, is it, Father?

Help me remember!

Pray this Lazaroo with heightened intensity:

“…be like a gazelle…”
(Song of Songs 2:17)

Lover talk, Jesus.

Good stuff. Wow.

But as with most of this fascinating book

there’s a spiritual application too, isn’t there?

I can’t match the gazelle’s 50 mph speed –

almost, but not quite as fast as the cheetah –

which loves to dine on gazelle.

But maybe I can match the gazelle’s intensity

as it attempts to elude its hunter.

O Great God:

Enable me to escape from Satan’s relentless pursuit!

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“…a person may labor with wisdom, knowledge and skill, and then they must leave all they own to another who has not toiled for it.”
(Ecclesiastes 2:21)

Well, no, Jesus.

If unwise, it doesn’t have to be done that way.

Does it usually happen the way Solomon describes it? Yes.

But is that necessarily bad? No.

One of the joys of life is working hard

so I can pass the fruit of my labors on to those I love.

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“He overlaid the inside with six hundred talents of fine gold.”
(2 Chronicles 3:8)

That’s a lot of gold, Jesus.

23 tons.
Wow.

And no ordinary gold.
Fine gold.

The current price of gold is $1,683 per ounce

There are 32,000 ounces in a ton.

So Solomon overlaid the inside of Your Most Holy Place

in Your Temple in Jerusalem with

with 1 billion
238 million
688 thousand dollars worth of gold.

A little chintzy…but I guess that’s the best he could do.

Pray this Lazaroo from a tender heart:

“turn, my lover…”
(Song of Songs 2:17)

Solomon’s bride wants him to turn toward her and love her, Jesus

just as You call us to turn away
from those things that distract us from loving You.

How can I show You my love today?

Certainly, what I’m doing right now, is one way.
So is reading, studying, obeying Your Word in my life.

But it also includes helping others
and sharing Your good news of salvation with the lost.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“Adonijah shall be put to death today!”
(1 Kings 2:24)

He just couldn’t leave it alone, could he, Jesus?

Adonijah wanted to be king.
He was the son of David.

As far as he was concerned
Absalom’s death meant he was next in line.

There was just one problem with his plan:

You had chosen Solomon to be king.

The way I reason everything out has no bearing whatsoever, does it?

Your wise, all-knowing will is the only thing that matters.

Pray this Lazaroo with faith in the God who can:

“Until the day breaks and the shadows flee…”
(Song of Songs 2:17)

What a beautiful way to say it, Jesus!

“Until the day breaks…”
means Solomon’s wife desires to be loved all night long

“…and the shadows flee”
means she longs to be loved until high noon.

Me too, LORD! Me too!

And You do –

all day and all night
month after month
year after year

my whole life long until I depart this earth

to exult in Your love forever!

Pray this Lazaroo in reverent awe:

“He built the Most Holy Place…”
(2 Chronicles 3:8)

What an honor, Jesus!

To be the person who constructed
the room holding the ark of the covenant –

more sacred than any other place on earth –

the unique focus of Your Presence among us.

Of course, Solomon didn’t do it himself.

As it is today…
it was the unnamed workers
who actually performed Your holy work.

You know which of us merely point

and which bend our backs to the labor.

Pray this Lazaroo in flabbergasted wonder:

“…he browses among the lilies.”
(Song of Songs 2:16)

Solomon’s bride is speaking poetically, Jesus.

Solomon isn’t browsing among actual lilies.
He’s making love to his wife.

Literal language has its place

but it can go only so far.

There are some experiences in life that require poetry.

One of the greatest of those is Your love for me!

When I try to grasp the significance
of how Your perfection can choose me
flaws and all

I go tilt.

Pray this Lazaroo in humble awareness:

“He overlaid the ceiling beams, doorframes, walls and doors of the temple with gold…”
(2 Chronicles 3:7)

Well…not exactly, Jesus.

Solomon ordered the work done.
It wouldn’t have happened without him.

But he didn’t personally overlay anything.
It was the workers who performed that golden task.

Leaders are essential…

…but so are workers.

Neither can succeed without the other.

Sometimes I’m the leader
sometimes I’m a worker.

But in whichever role I serve You

remind me to respect the other.
