Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“…on the throne of my father David…”
(1 Kings 2:24)

Wow. For Solomon to be able to say that, Jesus…

Pretty special.
Pretty exclusive.

But about the time I start feeling like a commoner –

like an outsider looking in…

I remember Your promise:

If I stick with You all the way to the end
I will be invited to sit with You on Your throne!

I will reign with You forever!

Thank You.
That’s all the motivation I need!

Pray this Lazaroo freed of illusion:

“My lover is mine…”
(Song of Songs 2:16)

What a desperate declaration for Solomon’s wife to make, Jesus

in light of the fact that she was only one of 700 –
not to mention Solomon’s 300 concubines.

The less we human beings possess, Father

the more we pretend to have.

It’s easy for me to see that in this woman’s behavior

but where am I exhibiting the same thing in my own?

Nothing I have is mine.
All is Yours.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the gold he used was gold of Parvaim.”
(2 Chronicles 3:6)

No one today knows the location of Parvaim, Jesus.

But it’s telling that when it came time to decorate Your temple
Solomon refused to use whatever gold was easily available.

Instead, he sought out the finest, purest gold
and paid whatever price necessary
to give You the best.

That’s the desire of my heart, Father!

You deserve the very best
because You give Your very best to me.

Pray this Lazaroo in lavish worship:

“He adorned the temple with precious stones.”
(2 Chronicles 3:6)

As he oversaw the building of the temple

Solomon did his best to honor, worship and exalt you, Jesus.

That’s the desire of my heart!

I’m sure You enjoyed those precious stones, Father

but I have none to give.

What I’m offering You is the best of who I am and what You’ve given me.

Everything that is mine came from Your hand.

Back into Your hands they go.

Pray this Lazaroo with undiluted sincerity:

“And now, as surely as the LORD lives –”
(I Kings 2:24)

Those are strong words, Jesus.

Solomon was determined to put his brother Adonijah to death
that very day –

which he did.

But unless You’re the one who puts those words in my mouth

I don’t plan to ever speak them.

You live!

There is nothing more certain or more sacred
than that overriding, glorious, awe-inspiring truth.

My intentions – no matter how fervent –

will always pale in comparison.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“May God deal with me, be it ever so severely…”
(1 Kings 2:23)

Until You, Jesus

Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived.

But that was one of the most foolish things he ever uttered.

I would never ask You to deal with me severely
if I didn’t follow through on something –
no matter how important.

I beg You to be far gentler with me than I deserve!

so I can keep trying

until I get it right.

Sober up, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“May God deal with me…”
(1 Kings 2:23)

Oh, Jesus.

We human beings don’t pay nearly enough attention to our words, do we?

King Solomon was about to pronounce the death sentence upon his brother.

In fact, he was so angry at his brother at that moment
that he declared his intent with an oath.

But before I follow Solomon’s example, it might be good for me to remember:

If I ask You to deal with me

You will.

Pray this Lazaroo, in tender response:

“…show me your face…”
(Songs of Songs 2:14)

Solomon made that request of his bride, Jesus

do You make that request of me?

It’s certainly possible.

The Apostle Paul makes it clear that everything written in the past
was put in Your Word to teach us.

So why would You want me to show You my face?

You made me.
You already know what I look like.

Oh.

When I show You my face
I’m intimately focused on You.

Pray this Lazaroo, in awe:

“…the wise, like the fool, will not be long remembered…”
(Ecclesiastes 2:16)

Oh, really, Jesus?

Solomon missed it on that one, didn’t he?

He repeatedly tells us that he’s looking at everything

“…under the sun.”

But You’re the God who made the sun!

You’re under it, over it, beside it and all around it –
and a billion trillion other suns besides.

So that’s why we remember Solomon – the wisest man who ever lived –

till You –

nearly 3,000 years later. 😉
