Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The foundation Solomon laid for building the temple of God was sixty cubits long and twenty cubits wide…”
(2 Chronicles 3:3)

There’s never been another temple like it, Jesus –

but that makes me think:

What kind of foundation am I building?

Solomon did a great job laying the foundation for Your physical temple

but his spiritual foundation didn’t hold.

It all started when he disobeyed you in seemingly small ways

first this…then that.

But there’s nothing small about disobedience.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“You might as well request the kingdom for him…”
(1 Kings 2:22)

All Adonijah asked was to marry this woman, Jesus.

But Solomon knew better.

With that key move

his brother could succeed in overthrowing him.

Like Satan!

He tempts me to compromise in an area that seems harmless
but what he’s doing is getting a toe in the door

then a foot
followed by a leg
until he’s completely inside

intent on overthrowing Your kingdom in my life.

Pray this Lazaroo in awareness of your deepest need:

“…in the hiding places on the mountainside…”
(Song of Songs 2:14)

With such language Solomon wooed his bride, Jesus…

even as You call to me.

It is true that I encounter You when I’m with Your children

so often surprised at how sweet their fellowship can be
especially when they lay aside fear and pretense
daring to be their true Christian selves.

But it is in my times alone with You

1on1

that I experience the deepest, sweetest joy.

Pray this Lazaroo, trusting God’s design:

“This too is meaningless.”
(Ecclesiastes 2:15)

Yes it was, Jesus…

…and no, it wasn’t.

Meaningless to Solomon?

Sure. He was stuck with what he could see.

Because You had given him unprecedented wisdom

he supposed that if he couldn’t figure it out

there was nothing to it.

But meaningless to You?

No, no, never-never, huh-uh, uh!

Every person, plant, animal, behavior, event and substance

on or off this earth

has meaning to You!

Because You do nothing without purpose.

Pray this Lazaroo with determination:

“He began building on the second day of the second month in the fourth year of his reign.”
(2 Chronicles 3:2)

Pretty specific on this Ash Wednesday Valentines Day, Jesus!

That’s exactly when Solomon began building Your temple.
There’s never been another like it.

He built other things, as well

but none more important than this.

When will I begin building my most important project, Father?

Have I already begun
or is that day, month and year still ahead of me?

Only looking back

will I know.

Pray this Lazaroo with keen anticipation:

“Then Solomon began to build the temple of the LORD…”
(2 Chronicles 3:1)

I can only imagine the joy of that moment, Jesus!

Solomon’s father David had longed for this privilege
but You would not allow him to build your temple.

Solomon knew You had saved this honor for him.

Based on the prayer he prayed at its completion
he was thrilled…and deeply humbled.

What have you saved for me to do, Father?

Please.
Don’t let me miss it.

Go to school, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The fate of the fool will overtake me also…”
(Ecclesiastes 2:15)

Solomon’s right, Jesus:

Just as the person who foolishly disbelieves in you
will one day breathe their last on this earth

so will those who believe in You with all their hearts.

But Solomon was also wrong:

Unlike the unbelieving fool
every believer who closes their eyes here

will open them in heaven.

Sadly, as he grew older, Solomon disobeyed You.

May I not follow his foolish example.

Pray this Lazaroo in wise faith:

“When Bathsheba went to King Solomon…the king…bowed down to her…”
(1 Kings 2:19)

I love the respect Solomon showed his mother, Jesus.

Of all his wise behaviors
this may have been his best.

I wonder…

did he know what his mother endured to be in this position?

Was he aware that King David killed her husband to hide the pregnancy he had caused

resulting in his older brother’s death?

O God!

Give me mad respect for those who’ve suffered.

Pray this Lazaroo in deepest respect:

“When Bathsheba went to King Solomon…the king stood up to meet her…”
(1 Kings 2:19)

I love this, Jesus –

the respect Solomon showed his mother.

Typically, kings didn’t stand for anyone except another king.

But You’ve instructed us to honor our mothers and fathers
that our days may be long on this earth.

Solomon knew Your Word.
He was filled with Your wisdom.

So when his mother entered the room
he paid her the honor due her:

He stood.
