Consider carefully, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Ephraim mourned for them many days, and his relatives came to comfort him. Then he made love to his wife again, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. He named him Beriah, because there had been misfortune in his family.”
(1 Chronicles 7:22-23)

Ephraim was lost in grief, Jesus.

Even after You gave him a son in place of those who died
he rhymed his name with “misfortune.”

When I’m dealt a huge blow

please help me trust You
and move on!

Pray this Lazaroo in zealous love:

“Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, saying, ‘May the Lord give you children by this woman to take the place of the one she prayed for and gave to the Lord.’ Then they would go home. And the Lord was gracious to Hannah; she gave birth to three sons and two daughters.”
(1 Samuel 2:20-21)

No one can outgive You, Jesus!

Least of all me.

You’ve blessed me over and over and over again.

I can never repay You
but I will never stop trying!

See if you can keep track of this Lazaroo!

“Makir took a wife from among the Huppites and Shuppites.”
(1 Chronicles 7:15)

It’s fascinating to trace the ancestry of these people, Jesus!

Jacob and Rachel had two sons: Joseph and Benjamin.

Rachel died while giving birth to Benjamin
who was an ancestor of the Huppites and Shuppites.

Makir was the grandson of Benjamin’s other brother Joseph.

So when Makir chose a Huppite-Shuppite girl
he was marrying a many-times-removed cousin!

If that matters to You…

it matters to me.

Pray this Lazaroo in abject gratitude:

“The descendants of Manasseh: Asriel was his descendant through his Aramean concubine. She gave birth to Makir the father of Gilead.
(1 Chronicles 7:14)

It would have been nice if Asriel had been born to a Jewish woman, Jesus

rather than an Aramean.

It would have been nice if she had been a wife, rather than a concubine.

But you didn’t discard their entire line!
You turned them into captains and great fighters.

Thank You for Your amazing, forgiving mercy!

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“…the older women…can train the younger women to love their husbands…”
(Titus 2:3-4)

Why do we need training in how to love one another, Jesus?

Perhaps it’s because we know how we would like to be loved
so that’s how we attempt to love them.

But the way we’d like to be loved isn’t always the way we need to be loved

and we certainly don’t know how best to love others

…until – through the wise among us –

You train us.

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house…”
(Hebrews 3:5)

Faithfulness is good, Jesus.

But Your description of Moses
shows me there are degrees of faithfulness.

Apparently, it’s possible to be faithful in part of Your house

and unfaithful in others.

A husband might be faithful to church
but unfaithful to his wife.

A woman may be faithful to serve others
but unfaithful in tithes and offerings.

Help me be like Moses:

faithful in all Your house!

Pray this Lazaroo in deepest gratitude:

“…my groans pour out like water.”
(Job 3:24)

Few people can identify with the depth of Job’s suffering, Jesus.

But You can.

Job had lost almost everything – his wealth, his children and his health.

The only thing that remained were his so-called friends
who told him he was getting what he deserved

a wife who told him to curse You and die

and his life.

But you gave even that – Your life! – out of love for me.

Thank You!

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“My lover is mine and I am his…”
(Song of Songs 2:16)

What a beautiful expression of Godly married love, Jesus!

The wife admits: She belongs to her husband
then adds: Her husband belongs to her.

Mutuality.

Her husband owns her.
He’s bought her with himself.

She owns her husband.
She’s bought him with herself.

They’re one.

Isn’t that how You said it was supposed to be in the very beginning?

To this very day…

great marriages follow suit.

Pray this Lazaroo with full-on ardor:

“I will live with you.”
(Hosea 3:3)

Nothing unusual to say to a wife, Jesus…

unless she’s left her husband to become a prostitute –
which is exactly what Hosea’s wife Gomer had done.

There was only one reason he took her back:

You told him to.

To his everlasting credit, he did it –

maybe the hardest command he ever obeyed.

You wanted to demonstrate through him what You’ve done with me

in taking me back
after all my sins.
