Beg God for understanding, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever…He gives…knowledge to the discerning.”
(Daniel 2:20-21)

At first glance this hardly seems fair, Jesus.

Discerning people already possess significant knowledge.
Why load them up with more?

Is it because the more You give a discerning person

the more they do with it?

On the other hand…

even when You inundate a foolish person with countless blessings
all they do is ignore, disrespect or squander them.

Which am I?

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“‘Very well,’ Bathsheba replied, ‘I will speak to the king for you.’”
(1 Kings 2:18)

Bathsheba was naïve, trusting, politically inexperienced, Jesus

She took the conniving Adonijah at his word

not knowing that if her son Solomon had granted his brother’s request

she and her son would soon be dead.

I want to take people at face value, Father…but I’ve learned the hard way

that isn’t always possible

O Holy Spirit:

Grant me Your priceless gift of discernment!

Pray this Lazaroo with catalytic dedication:

“When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with…superior wisdom…”
(1 Corinthians 2:1)

This is interesting, Jesus.

Paul was incredibly smart.
Most people would have expected him to lead with that.

So why didn’t he?

Because he wanted them to follow You
not him.

A lot of leaders claim that as their goal

then can’t seem to help themselves
as they try to build a cadre of people loyal to them.

Oh! For more leaders like Paul.

Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever…He gives wisdom to the wise.”
(Daniel 2:20-21)

We so easily forget, don’t we, Jesus?

All wisdom comes from You.

True…everything else comes from You, too – which we also forget.

But without wisdom, who can succeed?
Who can truly – and lastingly – enjoy life?

When I act with wisdom, please help me acknowledge its Source

and in light of how many times I’ve missed the boat

give me more.

Take stock as you pray this Lazaroo:

“To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure.”
(Titus 2:15)

That explains a lot, Jesus.

Cynical – especially in some situations – is wise.

But the immovable cynic

has a lot of ‘splainin’ to do.

When I’ve been burned over and over again

I’m tempted to become a cynic –
someone who believes nothing is pure.

But that totally disrespects You –

whose specialty
is removing impurity from my life.

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful trust:

“Wisdom will save you…from men…who are devious in their ways.”
(Proverbs 2:12, 15)

Just as Herod lied to the magi claiming he wanted to worship You, Jesus

so there will be those who attempt to deceive me –

some of whom will hide behind seemingly “holy” purposes to do it.

It’s one thing to be able to tell that’s what’s going on…

quite another to have sufficient wisdom to know what to do about it.

That’s where You come in, isn’t it? 😉

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“ ‘I have one request’…’You may make it,’ she said.”
(1 Kings 2:16)

It’s one thing to let someone make a request, Jesus

quite another to grant it.

The moment Bathsheba allowed Adonijah to make his request, she felt obligated to say yes.

Needlessly.

In this case, foolishly.

Please remind me to separate the two!

Please give me the wisdom to discern among

good
better
best.

along with the courage to reject

every request
that isn’t best.
